So my Hard Drive fucked up like a month ago, so I sent it in under the 3 year warranty. Apparently Hard Drives dying for no reason and taking all my files with it doesn't fall under the warranty though.I can either pay £40 to get it fixed, or I can pay £40 to get it delivered back to me, still unfixed. Alternatively, they can keep it and never give it me back.

ASUS is only cheap because it manufactures its own laptops. There is no middle-man so the prices can be far cheaper than, for instance, Dell or Apple. You may be confusing ASUS with the other Taiwanese computer company known as Acer which has caused ASUS the equivalent of what Packard-Bell did to Hewlett-Packard by associating the similar name with poor quality.e

I checked shipping prices. The price of shipping for a packet LARGER and HEAVIER than an ASUS EeePC from the UK mainland to Taiwan is £23.37.

That would have been a good idea he had known that ASUS doesn't cover hard drive failure before he sent it out, but now ASUS is charging 40 either way to make sure that he can't do that. And it doesn't matter if it's the hard drive manufacturer's fault. ASUS should then go to the hard drive manufacturer. Warranties are supposed to cover manufacturer defects and if your hard drive died while still under warranty it should have been covered.
