But the chans aren't really all the representative of the general population, are they? That would be like saying that most young men are lonely misanthropes and citing the chans as evidence.

Anyway, as I said, you're generalising too much. Lots of people only drunk alcohol socially or in small amounts. It only becomes "life ruining" when it's consumed enough to create a dependency on it.
