I don't think she understands how pointless this activity is.

They are only doing their job. Just be pleasant and give a firm no.

Its a hard job and they hardly need some mad old woman on the phone giving them grief.

So she is not on the do not call list?

My dad does the same thing. Especially if they call and ask for him by his first name. He hates that. They do it to sound like a friend and not a telemarketer to get by people screening and he hates it so he argues about how rude it is to not call him Mr. Or sir.

I once had a call centre guy call me from India. He claimed his name was the same as mine, like he didn't just read my details off his screen.

I like to listen to their shpiel. I'll let them go on and on, talking and talking like they do, and finally after they finally shutup and let me speak I say, "hello?" In as old an old man's voice as I can muster.
"Are you calling about my medicine?"

And if they continue to sell me on electricity or repeat their slick sales pitch I reward them with a little, "the girl was late with my breathing treatment, and I need my medicine!"

If that doesn't stop them I rub the reciever on my shirt and mak3 like I'm taking the phone from someone and then say in my nirmal voice, "I'm sorry, he's not supposed to be using the phone," and hang up on them.

I honestly don't care if im on a no call list or not

I like messing with army recruiters who call me, but I feel bad. It's not their fault that their job is terrible.

One time, this guy had a two-minute-long prepared speech, and I just kept asking him to repeat it. Took him until the sixth time to hang up.

If it's someone trying to get donations, she'll try to find out the % of money that actually goes to the stated purpose. Then she'll say it's too low, or argue that they are being deceptive. She also needs to know the name of the company that's calling her and who they are contracting with. idk, seems silly.

Many companies ignore it and call from restricted numbers

Once after a knee surgery, I worked telemarketing. One day, a space shuttle had blown up and we didnt know, so we had many sobbing and screaming people on the phones

"Yes, hello sir. Would you me interested in hearing my sales pitch?"
"Why of course I would. Do go on."
"Let me begin by saying we can save you a ton of money on your insurance premiums if you switch to Metro Life-"
"OH MY GOD THE PRESIDENTS BEEN SHOT! It's all over the news! He's dead! Killed by Indians! Dot Indians, not feather! Oh my god! Are you seeing this?"

Shortly after I moved into a new apartment in SoCal and had a landline hooked up, I would constantly get calls from real estate agents asking if I was looking to sell my home. (It was 2006 and the housing market was furiously working itself toward bursting at that point.) When I had the time I would listen to their spiel, try to get them to repeat the longest parts, ask questions about tangential issues, and generally take up as much time as they would let me. Then I would let the other shoe drop. "This all sounds great, but I'll have to check with the landlord." "You don't own the property?" "No, You're calling an apartment complex. Didn't you know that?"

Silly? Juvenile? Yes. But it was a great way to relax at the end of the day.
