It's an ancient Dell laptop. All of a sudden it types the letter "i" randomly and continuously. It is not the keyboard. Ideas? Spybot and mbam don't pick up anything.

> It is not the keyboard.
I assume you tried a different keyboard?
What's it running? XP?
Have you checked online to see if there is any known faults with the model?

My mom's advice was to just not use the Internet, because if you're not connected to the Internet, then the hacker can't get to you. She seems to think someone is actively typing Is through the Internet to fuck with him.

Sometimes Falco's computer types the letter "j" randomly and continuously.

Sometimes Walter's computer types requests for CP into Google continuously.
That's what he's telling the police anyway.

Oops, it's actually 1 not i. Anyway, it's still doing it. I tried an external keyboard and it still did it, though less. It's 8-9 years old though so I think he should just get a new one.

The only way to really tell if it's the laptop keyboard or not is to actually unplug the built-in laptop keyboard from the motherboard. Seriously though letting your parents use XP is asking for computer problems. My parents used to get viruses on their computer all the time and I got tired of playing tech support so I installed Linux and they never had a problem again. You might look into doing likewise if all they do is email and Facebook.

This. They're old. Get them a chromebook. They're not gonna use photoshop, so the only reason for them to have a Windows box is to break it.

Too mainstream. Get them something even more obscure (and therefore better) like Android on their desktop.

I tried putting Android on my laptop once for lulz, and it REALLY sucks to use with mouse and keyboard. Also most apps didn't work (cause they weren't designed for x86? — it is a mystery). @422,447 (J)
Chromebook is the best idea for oldsters. Do this @OP
