1. They are just as bulletproof as the Volvo, while still being American-made
2. They only just got out of production in 2011 and are far more common and therefore cheaper in both cost and maintenance
3. They have better leg room in both the front and rear
4. People won't cut you off in one of them
5. The Ford/Lincoln/Mercury gets the same MPGs as a Volvo while having a better aftermarket performance scene
6. They are both large and RWD

I've driven a 2005 Crown Victoria for 5 years now (it's a tan civilian model, I never liked the idea of driving an ex cop car), and it is fantastic. It's the last real full-size American sedan (Impala is FWD shit, and the Mopar Charger/300/Magnum is cheap bling crap made out of an old Mercedes E Class chassis with Fisher-Price build quality).
The newer Panthers have amazing driving dynamics. Get a post-2003 model because they totally re-designed the frame (increased torsional rigidity), suspension (moved the rear shocks and springs outboard of the frame), and steering (replaced recirculating ball with rack and pinion) that year. It corners level, and there's no float at all. The ride is both taut and supple; speed bumps and railroad crossings are totally smoothed over. The drivetrain is also wonderful. The stock motor puts out 239hp and 282lb-ft of low-end torque. It's very similar to the Mustang engine, so most aftermarket Mustang mods should fit. You can easily get 300+hp out of it if you want.
The velour bench seats are also the most comfortable I have experienced in any car ever. The back seat is also sized for actual grown-ups, if you ever want to take friends around. And the trunk is beyond cavernous.
Finally, the drivetrain is bulletproof but if it ever does need repairs, parts are cheap and easy to find, and any mechanic can work on it. Because it's body on frame, any collision damage is much easier to fix than other cars as well.

So, aside from the fuel economy (that can be fixed with a good tune or even an engine swap), it is basically the perfect car. I'm looking into getting the more upscale Lincoln Town Car when I am older but for now I'll just go with the Crown Vic. But if the Town Car is cheaper, I'll go with it. They're fucking everywhere here, especially the non-cop ones.

I'd actually get a Grand Marquis/Crown Vic over a Town Car for two reasons: 1) the air suspension (if so equipped) can be problematic and expensive to fix, and 2) velour feels nicer than leather, especially during summer and it won't crack and look bad. The downside I guess is that velour can get stains, it's a personal preference thing I guess. The Town Car really doesn't have any luxury advantage over a Marquis or Crown Vic.
But yes, it is the perfect car. Supremely comfortable highway cruiser and fun in the corners as well. Also I love the styling of the Panther cars: it's tasteful, classic, and understated.

Of course I'll just get one without the air suspension because I hear they're a pain in the ass to tune and fix. And I like the look of black or tan leather over that of grey velour.

Fuck no. I respect myself and my future car too much to get that shit. (RAGE ALERT) My grandfather had an old Buick Grand National GNX and man was it quick. My cousin got it after he died and put some shitty fucking 22 spinners on it. He doesn't deserve such a beautiful car.

So, meta, what kind of engine would go best in a Town Car? I've been thinking about putting in a Mustang V6 (supercharged or biturbo) engine for almost twice the torque, horsepower, efficiency and a much better engine refinement than the original V8.
