Years ago in Santa Monica CA I dived into a wave and my face ran smack into a furry something. We both came up looking at each other. A full grown Sea Lion. Was at end of summer with cold water. I swam parallel with that Sea Lion for about 20 mins. It never left my side except as I slowly reached out with my arm and hand to touch it...It kept just enough distance to prevent contact. Then it wood return closer to me.
At the 20 min point I said thank you and good by to it. No clue if male or female.
