I discovered the other day that the reason for it was not to fight against the government, but to fight for the government

I think they called it Shaes rebellion, idk much about it. but it almost succeeded and the white house had no standing army, so they needed to ensure they had a militia they could call up on at any point to destroy further rebellions that threatened the fledgling union.

I didn't think that the rebellion had anything to do with the right to bear arms? I don't know much US history.

Yeah, but there were some harbor issues and ney york went to war with new jersey or somecrap like that. THe articles of confederation were severely lacking and couldn't guarantee we wouldn't destroy ourselves with infighting.

Therefor they needed are stronger document.

Iirc that is. But yeah, the states were going to war with each other over commerce issues and harbor use.
