We're far too polite for any of that burning torches nonsense. If we feel the need to take drastic action against the government, said action will take the form of a mass convergence on Parliament. why would it advise this? the katana is a slashing weapon perfectly suited for dismemberment and beheading. it's also quiet.
for close quarters you'd want something more like a nice tomahawk or a hatchet. maybe even a heavy hammer.
but i'd still want a longsword of some kind.
guns are not a good long term solution, even silenced. ammunition and wear will be an issue. complex weapons require maintenance, and if not serviced properly won't last in the long term. simpler weapons will last much longer, but without a manufacturing base for ammo, it'll eventually be rare to non-existent.
