Walter seems to have this crazy urge to downplay California lately. It's as if he's sad he can't live there, and he wants to make other people think it's worthless to make himself feel better. Oh well. It's not like he leaves his parents' house anyway. No one here in California is losing any sleep over it anyhow.

Making California sound awful isn't going to make it any more bearable to live in your basement. If you have some secret wish to move out here, go for it! Putting it down in verbally isn't going to make it want to happen to you. (thinking about moving to California isn't like courting a girlfriend in junior high, after all)
