She probably thought it was enough to use a wifi hotspot and a trash account. She apparently used her own computer. So I guess she had different ip addresses but they can see other infirnation too, like some hardware I think and the browser you use. Probably she and the person making the threat were found to use exactly the same setup and it was suspicious so they questioned her till she confessed. I could be wrong, I have no clue what they can really glean from a post on the web.
But every week I read story after story where people are caught doing stupid shit on their internet. There was a big case in kaufman county where a judge and some DAs were killed, and they caught the guy becuase they tracked his ip address from where he threated to kill others. Turns out he was a fired judge exacting revenge. I would think a judge would know a little better what not to do online...Â
