i am using the current stable drivers

yeah, they are from the same package, 2x2gb

also when it worked again magically it asked me if i wanted to change settings in the bios or restore default settings, when i went into the bios all settings i had previously changed where back to their defaults

I was playing Strong Bad's cool game for attractive people and after 5 minutes or so one of the fans made a weird noise as if it was blocked somehow, then the screen got kind of scrambled and I got the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bsod. I will try rebooting tomorrow but if this is the same as the previous times, it won't turn on and if I leave it alone long enough it fixes itself. Is it a cooling problem maybe?

Wrong. For example in safe mode you are bypassing the graphics card. Now THAT can really be useful cause if you have looked at the many ways to run in safe mode you can one by one turn on each element that is not used in pure safemode and isolate and then find the buggy hardware item.
You could also say test out the graphics with speecy. The same for looking at CPU vs heat build up.
I assume you have opened the computer up a bit and looked for errant dust? I have seen dust conduct which of course is on and off shit.

Forum i was running memtest yesterday and when i came back the cpu fan (or possibly a hard drive) made a horrible screeching noise

@412,807 (doctor superman md !jdTkvovFCQ)nice, my computer has been known to self repair a time or two. most recently i went to bed one night and it was left on, at some point it turned off. the next day i couldn't get it to start. i checked all my connections and plugs and everything was fine, it was acting like a dead PSU. so i just unplugged everything and gave it a couple of days sick leave and let it relax with it's cover off. I was going to pull the PSU and replace it, but i thought, "it's been resting a couple of days, i'd better plug it in first and see if it's better."
and it was! it booted up and here i am today!
computers have a remarkable ability to self repair if you just give them plenty of air and a little downtime.

It sounds like you might have a cooling issue, your fan might be messed up. I had this same issue a while back and would occasionally hear that horrible screeching noise as well. Also, my computer would crash everytime I'd try to do something labor intensive like game, or if it was just on for too long. Anyway, you should look into programs that check to see if your fan is working ok, and if those programs don't work on your hardware, then I suggest just having someone come in and taking a look at your shit.

Just got in from Surfing my Ocean a Blue.....
Damn just Damn. I can only assume you did not have music or such cranked up LOUD so as to not hear a bad fan or hard drive in the past. Nor can I imagine any of your problems being related to a bad fan because you wood have noticed no air flowing IF of course you ran your computer while looking at the guts? Clearly if the fan was not running or was intermittent re a faulty connection, you wood have noticed that?
For sure I have had noises from hard drives prior to full fail (worn bearings) and was able to save the data before a swap out.
Unless its a simple faulty fan? Best guess is that the problems are not related.

Yeah the cover has been off for some time because i installed a new psu. That does explain why it runs for longer without error after a while of not being used, all though it does still get too hot after half an hour or so.

Sure does sound like something is getting to hot.
Speed of fan is usually a controlled element but one quick way to test to see if the controller is on the fritz is just to go in with a hair dryer and crank up the heat and see if the fan goes faster.
Never having done this myself on a cpu - but on other parts a bunch and I mean a bunch....Unless you have a multimeter you can clip in to see if the fan voltage increases as you add heat - wood be tricky cause with the noise of the hair dryer and the added moving air....I doubt you can detect fan speed increase without a multimeter.
That noise you had sure makes one of two things major world class suspect. My money is on the fan at this moment with the little info I have. BUT remember its speed is external controlled so swapping out the fan unless you can exchange it for money back...means more testing.

So I'm in the bios now and checking out the temperature. It started at 39 but then went up a degree every second or so until 45 and now it is still slowly raising. I will post a pic of this menu

I think I fixed it, or at the least improved it. I replaced the thermal paste and now when in the bios it won't go hotter than 45 which is still pretty hot. So it might simply be the fan being shitty

This is weird, measuring from Windows with coretemp gives way lower readings (23 to 28 degrees celcius)
