I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he's better remembered as the man who invented the Turing Test, though not to claim that his treatment by the British Government was not... ungrateful (he contributed to the Enigma decoding as well as various cryptology algorithms during the second world war).

He was a mathematician who worked as a codebreaker during WW2. Broke the Enigma codes. Was later prosecuted for being gay and forced to undergo hormone therapy which led to him killing himself via cyanide. Given a government apology under Labour in 2009, never pardoned. Sad.
