How do you use this new version of the new tab page?
Instead of eight most visited sites, I now have four.

Other then cell phones, there is no reason why you cannot have multiple browsers.
I use Firefox where it excels and Chrome and Opera. Have IE 10 and K-meleon and Simp Web.

Chrome has pretty decent customization support as well. The new tab page can be fully replaced or customized by the user, or extensions. Example: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/awesome-new-tab-page/mgmiemnjjchgkmgbeljfocdjjnpjnmcg?hl=en

Yeah I don't use it either. It never even shows anything, probably because I have browsing history disabled.

Turns out it's an extension I've got and not a setting. I got it because I didn't like how the omnibox shows search history and pages you've visited as you type; it's not helpful, it's annoying, and as far as I can tell you can't disable it, or at least you couldn't when I installed the extension. The extension doesn't work anymore for the omnibox, I just never uninstalled it, but it still blanks the Most Visited on the new tab page.

I see. Personally I find that feature quite helpful, minichan comes up with typing in mini, reddit for, well, r. Stuff like that. Do you expect anything else in the omnibox suggestions, or do you just dislike it trying to help you?

I have all the sites I commonly visit as bookmarks (100s) -- the only time I really use the omnibox is when searching for something new, so its helpfulness for me is sorely limited, though I imagine it's helpful for others. I don't really mind it that much anymore, but until Chrome decides to let you disable it, it's going to be an annoyance I'll just have to put up with.

I see. Well, whatever works for you. I don't understand why you'd prefer finding the right bookmark among 100s with the mouse over pressing either control+L or control+T then typing two or three letters and pressing enter.

One click vs min. 4 key presses! My bookmarks are icons only, so 50+ of the ones I visit the most fit into the visible bookmark bar, and the rest are in a folder. It feels quicker, to me.

I suppose it's a mouse vs keyboard thing then. I usually have my bookmarks bar hidden because I barely use it. Actually the most I use it for is keeping links saved between computers.
