This was long before that.
The Greeks used to sit around and just think about all kinds of stuff. It wasn't until Syntax invented homosexual experiences and margaritas and dance competitions that they grew decadent. Socrates was one of the old guard who stuck to philosophy even though everyone else was learning to swing dance. Syntax would go on to -between dance competitions- tutor Plato and then Aristotle, but both men were focused too much on logic and not enough on the 10-mile ocean blue.
