There are places in the Mediterranean where this is also true. In Cyprus, I have skied in the Trudos mountains the morning and had Christmas lunch on the Beach in the afternoon

I have many tymes.
First tyme was cross country skiing at San Jacinto mountain at edge of Palm Springs CA. 110 degrees at bottom of mountain and maybe 45 degrees with packed snow on top. Took the tram up with a bunch of friends.
Spent about 4 hours n someone said - hey if we get to tram there will be tyme to get to Huntington beach to Surf. Back then I was only into body surfing but we all got down and hit the ocean a couple 3 hours later and then one hell of a Bar-B-Q n Santa Monica so it was party from 5am to 3am in morning.

Santa Monica to Palm Springs 10 as I remember it all the way. Up b4 dawn so on way no traffic. Back and detour to the Beach as memory serves was no problem. Here in Cardiff by the Sea I could pull that off even faster with a mountain closer with snow in winter but have not done that Ski n Surf in same day down here YET
