Not relevant to my argument. "Us and them" is a necessary precursor and motivator for strong and powerful civilizations. History proves it, as you've politely pointed out. All the atrocities you mention were possible only because those civilizations were rocking powerful "us and them" ideologies. Absolutely any organization must be for something or against something to justify it's own existence and empowerment. Civilization just happens to be the most extreme example.
Civilization makes far too many demands on people to exist without some kind of fear of the alternative. Civilization for the sake of being civilized is a sure path to anarchy.

Yes it's a precursor, but we are a strong, developed civilisation now. Threat of invasion isn't a perquisite for unity anymore, we can maintain unity with sense belonging and technology, resources ect. The existence of "us and them" fueled atrocities in history does not disprove my view. Note how all the countries that took it to an extreme either failed and had to adapt into more tolerant societies or remained shitholes. Today, for the most part, the most successful countries are the most accepting ones.

Anarchy is the alternative. How often do you see a government overthrown and replaced with nothing? Society seems to naturally gravitate to establishing governments. There might be se grumbling, but by and large people enjoy a peaceful, advanced civilisation while being envied by those that aren't in such societies.

Probably. And even then it'd likely be fairly fragile. And before you call me a hypocrite, I only brought up "us and them" as a criticism of religion. We might need it to some extent at certain points, yes, but we needn't embrace it to succeed.
