Do you like it? It's got quite a following over here, generally being seen as the "intellectual" newspaper. But personally, I've got my criticisms of it.

I do prefer to post the NPR or BBC, but it's a good newspaper.

Thats horrible. It was probably a mistake to return to the same school.

Not returning to your job is more sensible than… keeping a job? In what way is it more sensible to usher her into leaving town? shut the fuck up, kook

Everyone had already seen her there as a man. Right or not, it was bound to cause a scandal. Though I don't see the point in a newspaper picking up that kind of story. I mean, its not like it was a spontaneous miracle or something, just a gender change.

No, it wasn't 'bound to cause a scandal'. The school was understanding and supportive and the students could have learned from the situation so that situations like these maybe won't be such an issue. She isn't the one who should be taking action out of consideration for other people's comfort.

It isnt about who should do what. People should be nice to everyone. Evidently, some of the parents got all upset, and some contacted newspapers. Which I think was unnecessary and bullying, but not surprising. This happens to gay people as well, because we live in an ugly society.

Btw, I have no problem with trans people being teachers and what not. I also think that she deserved her privacy, and that putting her in newspapers was evil, and possibly criminal.

It only blew up because of press paying money to parents to get pictures, and seeking out bigoted parents (a minority) who had a problem. Did you see that picture of Wayne in the DM article? He's like a stereotype of everything you imagine an English racist to be. When he smokes, it's almost certainly around his children instead of outside, and he probably votes BNP and hates pakis.

Yes, it blew up because of offended parents. I agree. Even when the school did not treat it as if it were shameful, the parents were still offended.
!KThEOwLwbU replied with this 13 years ago, 8 minutes later, 2 days after the original post[^][v]#402,585
The offended parents would have had no effect on their own. Probably all they would do is insult her in private, and teach their son or daughter to hate people who are different. The catalyst that caused this was a newspaper that wanted to exploit the outrage to write sensational headlines that people who read the Daily Mail would want to read. I always find the way that people always have a fascination with the things they don't like. For example, I do not really care for guns but when I go to America in the summer I will get to hold one for the first time in my life and I am actually kind of looking forward to it, to see what it's like.

They could have picketed, they could have made blogs, they could have done any number of things.
!KThEOwLwbU replied with this 13 years ago, 10 minutes later, 2 days after the original post[^][v]#402,592
Does Wayne look intelligent enough to do any of those things? I've known a lot of Waynes and they would not picket or make blogs. At most they would go beat up or kill the teacher if they got drunk enough.

Wayne's face is in the DM article, and Waj's face is in the movie Four Lions which is very funny.
