Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza maintained a spreadsheet filled with information from mass killings from the past and further alleges that it's a major sign of how video games influenced the mindset and planning of Lanza's terrible act of lethal violence, according to a front page story in today's New York Daily News.
A law enforcement source who spoke to the Daily News says Lanza's spreadsheet, which allegedly measures 7 feet by 4 feet, contained information on the weapons various killers used and the number of people killed. They say it amounted to a grisly high score list, one that Lanza wanted to wind up on top of:
"They don't believe this was just a spreadsheet. They believe it was a score sheet," the newspaper's source continued. "This was the work of a video gamer, and that it was his intent to put his own name at the very top of that list. They believe that he picked an elementary school because he felt it was a point of least resistance, where he could rack up the greatest number of kills. That's what (the Connecticut police) believe."
he existence of the spreadsheet came to light during the International Association of Police Chiefs and Colonels conference, which the News' source had attended. Col. Danny Stebbins from the Connecticut State Police spoke at the law enforcement convention and his presentation talked about how the state's police community are tying together this spreadsheet to Lanza's obsession with video games. The Daily News report named no specific games that Lanza may have played, which is standard in mainstream news reports.
"It really was like he was lost in one of his own sick games," the paper's source went on. "That's what we heard. That he learned something from his game that you learn in (police) school, about how if you're moving from room to room - the way he was in that school - you have to reload before you get to the next room. Maybe he has a 30-round magazine clip, and he's only used half of it. But he's willing to dump 15 rounds and have a new clip before he arrives in the next room."
The source says that Lanza's methods in the shooting were: "Classic police training. Or something you learn playing kill games."
Lanza is described not as a typical gamer but as a deranged one: "They believe that (Lanza) believed that it was the way to pick up the easiest points. It's why he didn't want to be killed by law enforcement. In the code of a gamer, even a deranged gamer like this little bastard, if somebody else kills you, they get your points. They believe that's why he killed himself."

quotes:
“They have pictures from two years before, with the guy all strapped with weapons, posing with a pistol to his head. That’s the thing you have to understand: He had this laid out for years before.
“He didn’t snap that day, he wasn’t one of those guys who was mad as hell and wasn’t going to take it anymore,†the man said. “He had been planning this thing forever. In the end, it was just a perfect storm: These guns, one of them an AR-15, in the hands of a violent, insane gamer. It was like porn to a rapist. They feed on it until they go out and say, enough of the video screen. Now I’m actually going to be a hunter.â€

Is that how it really happens

idk, lol But those types do tend to glut on their fantasies, until it gets to be too much, and they act out.

Would you say that someone with rape fantasies with no access to porn is less likely to be a rapist, compared to someone with rape fantasies and access to porn?

Not necessarily. Because I think that most would be rapists and murderers would find some way to indulge their fantasies, even without the help of porn. Though, I do think that some porno encourages the idea that women should be denigrated, or treated like an animal during sex. That probably doesnt help.

I don't believe that it's a video game high score sheet and that he killed himself because otherwise the copper would acquire his points.

The spreadsheet is creepy, but calling it a "high score list" and saying it was inspired by videogames is just retarded. Which video game features a seven foot wide spreadsheet? Or is Microsoft Excel a video game now? Will the next Grand Theft Auto let you make an Access database of the prostitutes you kill and cars that you've stolen?

They didn't even name the game! This is a whole new level of sensationalism. Now games are teaching advanced police tatics? LOL
This is no different than saying playing Gran Turismo on Playstation will teach you how to race cars in real life.

We haven't seen all of the info yet. Maybe they will reveal his writings, and it'll show more of a link to video games. Also, some video games do have spread sheets, that allow you to rank the attributes of fighters and weapons.

Because the concept of doing more things than everyone else existed before video games. Also the "he killed himself to preserve his points" thing is just stupid. Also most FPS games just let you reload from a pool of ammunition, the only one I can remember where reloading with half a clip wastes rounds is ARMA

What I see in this is an unwillingness to confront Adam Lanza himself and what made him crazy. It's all been making excuses for him. "It was the video games" or "it was the AR-15". It's easier to point the blame at inanimate objects.

Lolthis. In every FPS game I've played, if you suicide it subtracts from your score. Japanese Samurai would commit a seppuku ritualized suicide when there was no chance of victory. Maybe Adam Lanza was inspired by Japanese concepts of honor and samurai culture?

In co op games, your points go to your team mates.

If we continue the video game analogy, he decidedly was not playing co-op. He committed suicide so he wouldn't be punished. @399,964 (A) > How do you confront craziness?
You have to figure out what the root cause is. Guns, and video games with high scores have existed for a very long time. I know people hate the "guns don't kill people" cliche but it is true. Instead of blaming Lanza's acts on guns and video games, people should try to figure out why he killed a bunch of kids.

He might have been playing co op with the voices in his head or other school shooters.
this article didnt say that video games caused his mental illness, just that he was obsessed with them. In his own notes, he said that he picked an elementary school, because there would be less resistance and he would get a higher score/body count. Also, he was obsessed with Anders Brevik, and wanted to top his numbers.

@previous (A) > He might have been playing co op with the voices in his head or other school shooters.
I guess that it's not impossible for a crazy man to communicate with the spirits of Klebold, Harris, Brevik, et al. But it seems like he would have been competing against them for the dubious honor of the highest kill count. > this article didnt say that video games caused his mental illness, just that he was obsessed with them. All of my late teen and 20-something male friends could be described as "obsessed with video games", especially violent ones. It's not unusual for a 20-odd year old man to play video games a lot nowadays, so I don't see that as being anything worth noting. I see it, rather, as a distraction from the true cause of his craziness.
