I mean, did it do anything to prevent the institution of marriage from being turned into an divorce-based extortion racket? No. It just stops people that want to get married from getting married. It is a pointless act that should be removed for not serving a clear purpose.

It's doublespeak. When people talk about family values, and preserving marriage, they really mean "we hate fags". I think a lot of Republican politicians don't take it seriously (look at thrice married Newt Gingrich lol, or the drug-addled quadruple married Rush Limbaugh) but just promote it to get the christfag votes.

They blame gays to divert attention from their own moral failings. And the Bible is like the Constitution; Republicans love to pay lip service to it and fap to it but none of them actually abide by it or read it. Just like they got their panties in a bunch about how unconstitutional Obamacare is, but cheer on the Patriot Act and the TSA.
