Topic: Kindle problems- MC sees it as accessing from a proxy
Gil !NARMoRNOsk started this discussion 13 years ago#26,432
I recently was given an older Kindle, think its either first or second generation, and the browser seems have an issue with me posting or signing in with my UID. It gives me all the Proxy related errors. I'm not sure if this is a Kindle issue or a TinyBBS issue.

Are you connecting over WiFi or mobile network? I place $2 it's mobile network. And that's the reason you're having trouble.

Nah, its the base model, no mobile network, only connects via wifi. Same network works fine on my phone and laptop. It's the e-ink one, not a Fire, btw.

The first models did have 3G access.

There has been some complaints that Kindles are set up to route all browser traffic through Amazon's web proxy. (fints-g7g.amazon.com) This may be what is happening here.
@previous (Gil !NARMoRNOsk)
Oh hot, you got it working!

That would explain the issue quite readily, and its one that can't be readily fixed without opening a hole which can be flooded with spam... Very well, the solution seems to be signing in with a UID that has the prerequisites filled. Perhaps it should be added to the FAQ.

Go to the Stuff menu on this site, go to the restore ID option, type in your unique name and password. You should have eniugh posts to do that.

That isn't much of a solution.

I have other devices to access the internet, but I saw that the Kindle had a web browser, and thought, "hey, why not?"
pic related, the Kindle I'm using. @399,247 (F)
the prerequisite is a post count (you need a certain amount of posts to use a proxy), so I don't see how that's too big of an issue.

What if you're a new user?

Use a different device to create the ID, post a bunch, then sign in on the kindle? The only other solution I could see is adding a proxy exception, which with spoofing, could be abused to spam the fuck out of the forum.

How would those instructions be evident to any user?

You can't figure out that I'm agreeing it's not evident but disagreeing that it needs to be, and you wouldn't be able to figure out how to post on Minichan through a proxy.

I cannot disagree more. You just expect the solution to be spoon fed to you.

When a new user visits the site, how would they know exactly what to do?

That was why I suggested adding it to the FAQ.

My normal connection is also seen as a proxy, this is because my ISP is spying on me and uses transparent proxies and other dirty undies, Minichan detects it all!

@400,255 (Gil !NARMoRNOsk)
Or this bug could be fixed.
