I think so. They do it after look into the vortex that makes them Timelords or something like that. Something along the lines of them naming themselves after what sort of person they want to be.

Yeah, the priest thing would be accurate. And if a Timelord wanted to be somebody who touched children inappropriately and then blamed the child for it, they would probably take the name "The Catholic".

Actually he picked that title first,and the rest of the universe used that term for healer after him. Also in some places (like the Gamma forest) doctor means great warrior, also because of him.

I guess that it supposed to be integrity, and bravery. The main character from the show actually chickened out, but then stole a Tardis (she really wanted to go, so it wasn't a theft).

We would have no way of knowing, because he would have created that term before it was used by humans. So we would use the term pope, based on how we saw that particular timelord.
