Topic: Why is EA focused more on social justice than publishing functioning video games?

They're stupid. They're not an anti-defamation agency.

They at least admitted their always-online was to screw over customers. The Diablo III makers Blizzard just lied and claimed it was to prevent cheating, instead of even admitting it.

You can approve of their support for gay rights while disapproving of their business strategies/game design ect. Even if it is being done for mostly selfish reasons it's still a positive gesture.

It's not a bad thing to support gay rights, but when you put that above making games that fucking run, that's when I take issue. Also, they are a predatory business and it's obvious they only support gay rights to try and get some sort of moral high-ground.

> when you put that above making games that fucking run, that's when I take issue
Is their support of gay rights in itself really harming their games? It's their terrible DRMs, dumbing down of games and studio shutdowns that do that, I'd've thought.

Yeah they're mostly just doing it to garner positive press, I'm fully aware of that. Even so, it's a good cause. Doesn't make me support them or anything but it's nice to see a big influential corporation contributing.

Their priority is to make people like them. Same motivation with the Zynga lawsuit.

I can see why they'd place such importance on improving their rep, given how zealous some of their haters have gotten.

The best thing they could do is sell off the assets they don't need (mainly the unused IPs of companies they killed in their acquisitions), stop with the always-on DRM, improve customer service, and put some goddamn effort into their games.

And how necessary is them doing some of the computing, anyway?

yes obviously, and they have admitted that time and time again, and i think they are handling it pretty well currently, the pr is incredibly transparent, everyone will get a free game and they have also stopped advertising the game and encouraged other companies to do the same.

The game is rated T for Teen, so yeah.
You can already be gay or lesbian in the game, bisexuality is covered by that, and the only missing ingredient is transsexuality which I'm not entirely sure how they could implement it besides an option to change sex at the hospital. I doubt they'd add HRT.

Killer Lettuce !!iNo3FkiZx replied with this 13 years ago, 4 minutes later, 5 hours after the original post[^] [v] #396,806

@previous (Catherine !TGirlYJKXM)
Transsexuality might be a bit much, at least for now, but there might be a mod for it. IIRC, the Sims has a very strong and expansive modding scene.

@396,793 (Catherine !TGirlYJKXM)
I wouldn't say it needs promoting. Just giving your sims the option to be gay, and not making it any different from the hetero relationships (apart from the baby-making) is the perfect way to do it. Just a normal thing that you can do that's not really any different to the rest of the gameplay.

Catherine !TGirlYJKXM replied with this 13 years ago, 3 minutes later, 5 hours after the original post[^] [v] #396,808

@previous (Killer Lettuce !!iNo3FkiZx)
EA did acknowledge transsexuality in the University Life trailer and apparently added drug use to the expansion pack as well using the cover name "herbs". I think they also added beer to the game using the cover name "juice".
