Guy comes to the door, says "Hi, how are you doing today".
I ask if he's selling something, he says "No.".
The silence. He doesn't think "Well, fuck, maybe I should state my business here", just kind of stands there awkwardly.
I close the door. I don't slam it, I just close it as I normally would. Back up a little, pull it around, and the guy has a good 7 seconds to ask me to wait, or say anything, but he doesn't fucking say a thing.
I swear to god, is human communication so impossible?
The guy walks off, and I have no idea if I just turned away a neighbor, or perhaps some proselytizer, or what.
So the guy is walking off, and I'm peeking out my window, and he doesn't go to another house or anything, just walks down the street, and I'm thinking he either came specifically to say something to me, or I discouraged his sales pitch, for god or whatever and he's going back to wherever.
So I'm sitting there, and this is such a minute thing, but I wonder why people act this way.
Before long I'm thinking of getting one of those "No soliciting" signs, but does that make me come off as an ass?
I end up having a bowl of cereal at 12 noon, and using this encounter to justify the graphomania.
