A lot of people tend to believe it really makes the elevator magically go faster.

Depends. If I'm in a rush, I'll hit it repeatedly even though I know it won't make a difference. If I have time, then no.

Nope. It's the same concept with the crosswalk button. Pushing it more than once doesn't do shit.
