I live in the south and have not met anyone like that. That Gone With the Wind old time southern stereotype stopped being relevant at least 50 years ago. Thanks.

Well, she doesn't try to emulate the southern accent (anymore), but she does love to cook southern food. She did try to put up a confederate flag but dad took it down and caused some pretty funny drama. To put it into context, mom was born in North Dakota, and dad was born in Michigan to West Virginian parents.

Honestly, even in the south nowadays flying the Confederate flag is controversial (except in the backwoods rural areas). Only senior citizens and hick racists (a very small percentage of people) care about Confederate heritage stuff anymore.
I can't blame her about the liquor though, Southern Comfort is wretched. They changed the formula a few decades ago and now it's just alcohol, caramel color, and HFCS with artificial flavor. Southern food is nice, I'm always up for fried chicken and fried okra with sweet tea.

What state are you from? I have a (not so close) friend that really surprised me when I went to his house before. He lives in the backwoods rural area that takes 15 minutes to get to, and I was surrounded by deer heads and confederate flags hung around the house. And there are always those that have the flag on their truck bumper right next to the sticker that demands that you buy a domestic car.
