After cutting 73$million from family planning, they now have a shit ton of unwanted children.

Quote:
Using taxpayer dollars to finance family-planning services has become politically thorny in Texas, largely because of Republican lawmakers’ assertions that the women’s health clinics providing that care are affiliated with abortion providers. In the fiscal crunch of 2011, the Legislature cut the state’s family-planning budget by two-thirds, with some lawmakers claiming that they were defunding the “abortion industry.” Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin, found that more than 50 family-planning clinics had closed statewide as a result.

Now, amid estimates that the cuts could lead to 24,000 additional 2014-15 births at a cost to taxpayers of $273 million, lawmakers are seeking a way to restore financing without ruffling feathers.

Ideally, yes, people should be able to pay for their own god damn birth control, their own god damn abortions, their own god damn health insurance, and their own god damn kids, without having to worry about government interfering, but since we live in a world of instant gratification full of consequence-free safety nets and poor dumb motherfuckers (who should be sterilized to prevent them from breeding) having as many kids as they want and expect the government to just take care of everything for them, I'm OK with spending 70 million to subsidize voluntary sterilization (birth control, abortions, condoms, sex education, etc) if it will save the state 200 million in the long run.

I really don't give two shits about how hateful or politically incorrect this is. I hate the fucking republicans for their religious, social-conservative bullshit and I hate liberals for their spending, their throw money at the problem attitudes, their lack of faith in the free market, and most of all their coddling of the weak, inferior, and downright stupid at the expense of the American taxpayer all so they can get votes from people who shouldn't be allowed to vote. If you can't pass a civics test, don't own property, or you're on welfare, you shouldn't be allowed to vote. It's a conflict of interest.

Let people starve to death. Let children starve to death. I don't give a flying fuck anymore. The government is spending almost $1000 per month per every man woman and child in this country and no one seems to give a fuck, especially not politicians who fight tooth and nail to stop every possible spending cut and essentially refuse to give up a dime. Fuck it all. I hope it all burns to the ground.

There are so many countries that pay for full health insurance, and birth control. They aren't all hedonistic hell holes. By paying for birth control, they actually save money by not paying for the children. Which helps the population as a whole. Another benefit to not allowing people to starve to death, is that your country doesnt become a corpse filled wasteland, with hordes of begging children.
As for the welfare voting thing well that's tricky. Would you tell an injured war veteran that his voting rights are revoked for as long as they accepted medical, or financial aid?

Yeah because those other countries are reasonable. There's nothing reasonable about the USA level of spending and what they spend it on. The worst part is they actually debate if there is even a problem than they debate how much to cut. Cutting needs to be cut drastically, the only debate is how drastically. Obama calls a 3% cut catastrophic. It's a farce.

What are you talking about? You can buy condoms in any grocery or drugstore and any woman who wants can get the pill, an IUD, or one of those hormone implants.

Um yeah, most insurance companies want to provide these things, but people are suing to stop them. The same people who claim to love small government and the free market. Also, birth control and pills are not over the counter, and are only available through prescription. So many people cannot get those things.

How much does a box of condoms cost? Or a generic of the pill? Condoms have been over the counter since like, forever and have a 90%+ effectiveness rate if used with care. I don't think the state should really need to fund birth control, since the free market is providing it in abundance to anyone who wants it. I don't see how this is inconsistent with small-government principles.

My point is, even an uninsured person with no state assistance would not have difficulty obtaining effective birth control if they so desired. Contraception is so cheap that even if it were totally free I don't think it would change things much. The real issue, I think, is sex ed and responsibility.

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 13 years ago, 1 minute later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #394,382

Yes they would, because of doctors visits. You cant get it without a prescription, and planned parenthoods (basically the only place for uninsured people to get contraception related doctors visits) are being shut down by the Republicans who call themselves small government. Planned Parenthoods want to provide services, and people are using the government to shut them down. Not free market, or small government.

Meta !PARAdoxiHw replied with this 13 years ago, 11 seconds later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #394,387

Yes, but there are quite a few doctors (regular general practitioners) who would see you and prescribe it for $50-100 without insurance. Then go to Walmart and buy a 90 day supply for under $10. Or buy a box of condoms and some spermicide over the counter.

The problem is lack of sex ed and people thinking "herp derp feels better without a condom".

What!? Show me these doctors. Most of the time you have to have a full gynecological exam before they will prescribe them (which is very expensive without insurance). Where do you get your info? Besides Planned Parenthoods, show us all of these places that provide $50 physical and gyno exams?

Government is obstructing it, because they are using legislation to shut down Planned Parenthoods. Which are basically the only providers of womens healthcare to uninsured people. To reiterate: the way Texas is handling abortion is not the free market way because Texas is full of Jesus tards. The infant mortality rate doesn't come from abortions, but from subpar health care, and abstinence programs. Abortions are in included in these numbers, and Texas was like number two in dead children.

They do. They shame the children about sex, and teach them that condoms dont work. So when the children still give in to temptation, they dont use condoms. Thats why Texas and Mississippi both have very high teen pregnancy rates, and very bad infant mortality rates. Its the the truth.

Negative birth control is what caused the increase in unwanted pregnancies, because this happened right after a giant budget for family planning services. The pregnancies got scarily high, and now they're bringing the family planning back. Its not hard concept.

Yes having sex does cause children, good job. In Texas, when they cut the budget for family planning, they suddenly had a lot more children. Were people having more sex for some reason, or using less contraception? Well Texas realized that they cannot support the amount of child re being born, so now they are bringing back family planning. This is the most simple way that can explain it to you. Do you understand?

Tell us about how Texas can help there problem. You've been repeating yourself constantly. Regarding contraception in poor countries: we know that they have more babies than they can afford (on Texas as well) so why should we worry about mortal sins when we know that these children actually exist? Also, why pretend that you actually care about mortal sins, when you have never given a fuck abut molesty priests?

So in your opinion, even though using condoms helps prevent very poor people from falling further into poverty, and even though American evangelicals help introduced the death penalty for gays in Africa, that's okay because the alternative is sinning? Isnt murder a sin?

But this thread has shown the benefits of birth control several times, and there's strong evidence of homosexuality having a biological basis, so people can't help being homosexual.

Also, religion is load of crap anyway so your argument is invalid.

> Why? I would actually be interested in a defence of this statement.
Here we see mountainman arguing that charity should not be selfless and that charity workers with self-serving motives are okay.

> Because it's totally in their interests to convert poor people? Money goes in, it doesn't come out. There's no incentive apart from they actually care and want to help.
And here we see him arguing that missionaries aren't at all motivated by wanting to spread their religion. I also like how your view on a missionary's motivation is the same as my definition of an ideal charity worker, which you just criticised.
