I really cannot stand Windows 8. Convoluted is the only word that comes to mind when trying to describe why. I wish there was some way to get the performance enhancements without having to suffer through the UI carnage.

Let's see what happens if I need to find a program.
On Windows 7: > move mouse to the bottom left > click start > click on the search bar > type in what I'm looking for > click on what I need
And now in windows 8: > move mouse to the bottom left > just click > start typing > hit enter to start the first result
What else is different? Well since I got the store, I have some retarded minigames which were free from the store that entertain me from time to time.
Other than that, I enjoy the speed boost (specially when it comes to booting/loading up programs) and I need it to run Visual Studio 2012.
All in all, not looking back to Windows7 and the Aero bloat.

So I recently installed windows 8 as a dual boot next to my 7, where everything works fine. On 8 whenever I put it to sleep for longer than, say, an hour it boots up like it was restarted when turned back on wiping all my unsaved documents. It's a pain.
Also, turning it off is too many clicks/gestures.

My workflow in windows 7: > press windows key > start typing > press enter or select with arrow keys > have the magnificent power to see the rest of my screen which saves a mental context switch
My workflow in windows 8: > press windows key > start typing > select if i meant a program, setting or files with the arrow keys > either press enter or left arrow then navigate where i want with arrow keys > avoid metro apps if it was anything I mean to keep open for a while or compare to a web page because the setting dialog when snapped to the side of the screen only shows a menu, not like, the actual settings (example is windows update in metro, where the desktop version actually doesn't even show up in the start menu anymore, now i have to search for control panel then search for update) > lose the mangificent power to see the rest of my screen, and by the time I've launched what i wanted and got out of metro I might have lost track of what I was doing. That can be a pain when programming or doing something otherwise complicated/involved.
Besides the two issues I mentioned in this post windows 8 seems to be pretty nice. I enjoy the speed boosts, and wish I could try to get used to it as primary OS but the sleep thing is an issue.

What do you mean about aero being gone? It's still there. Or are you referring to the disabling of transparent borders/backgrounds?

1. Boot computer
2. See metro.
3. Shut down computer.
4. Boot windows 7.
