Couple of years back I bought a box of that. I bought a slew of cheep vin's in search of one perfect for Sangria. Wanted a dark red and tannin loaded vino = to what they use in Spain to make Sangria.
Alas seems no one in USA makes such now. Cannot remember details on that BOX other then law says it has to be made mostly with Cab Sav grapes. Gallo is the largest producer of cheep wines in USA
Don't remember who is #2 but Franzia is #3 and Bronco owned by departed Franzia founder who is a Franzia by name is #4 and they make a slew of wines under all kinds of brand names including 2Buck Chuck now $2.49.

Then my Flame war with him went full bore - The Incest war ended up doing R/T harm and his Sister Yowie ended her marriage, he ended his (did bro and sis end up doing the deed?) Farm went bust but I had nada to do with that. Weather and some infestation of his pigs did that farm in. (was daddy's anyway)
And as to anyone coming after me? They can find me in Los Angles on Sunday all day all night for Mardi Gras at the Farmers Market on Fairfax n Third I b on West Patio.

I must admit I am no connoisseur by any means but I cannot discern any meaningful difference in quality between the Franzia Cabernet Sauvignon and the vastly more expensive Yellow Tail version (expensive being a relative term in this case).

Simple rules which may be unimportant to you. One taste of any wine may satisfy. So in the case of a simple wine it may be just fine to wash down food. Tasting it on its own? Could be a simple flavor of the original grape. Just a fruit without any complexity. Now if that grape were grown with love and care and the right soil and conditions. Great wine maker with right tools. Aged in steel for some applications or in wood which could be very expensive. Then wood (oak) adds complexity.
So one looks for just one sip and does that sip contain just the simple grape (fruit) OR does it linger with a dozen complex "tones" Does one taste equal many seconds to minutes of flavor?
Washing down Thick red sauces ala Italian for pasta... A simple wine might be of much value because the more complex and expensive? Food could overpower the value of a more better wine.
However a simple cheese say a Brie or Blue cheese needs a truly complex wine to complement - Again its not a right or wrong to develop a taste for the more better made Vino's. A hobby I spent to much tyme and money developing but was worth the fun and new found friends and world adventures. Collection now exceeds my ability to drink them in tyme. Many have gone too far over the top to peak without me being able to get to them. Kinda waste of money and not a complement to the wine maker.d

I am by no means a wine expert. However I have developed (over many years) a sense for what I like and what I don’t. I exclusively drink red wines mostly Merlot and Cabernet from Calif. I like some reds from France as well. My favorite grocery store selection is Clos DuBois vineyards. I tend to like stuff in that price range and up, where and if the wine is in the $5-$10 range, I really don’t care for it that much.
With that said, I went to The wine vaults and got a “box†of French Rabbit Cabernet.
Bottom Line: It was horrible. I wouldn’t give it to my dog.

I have heard in-store advertisements for Clos Du Bois while shopping in my favorite grocery store but the advertisements were spoken by a woman who sounded like a Stepford Wife so I worried it was something for middle age houswives to drink (I know Franzia has this reputation to a certain extent but it's also the cheapest way to get relaxed).
One time I was in WalMart buying a box of Franzia chardonnay and the cashier was a black lady who was kinda like Wanda Sykes and she looked at the box and said "Chardonnay? Boy what you know about chardonnay??" to which I responded "I know it tastes good".

Check with store manager and ask for the resident wine expert in store. That company pays in advance for what they buy so they get super deals and can re-label and or buy in mass quantities with a small very small mark up and sell super value.
In blind tastings a $10 wine can beat $30 wine on occasion. Year to year it may be very different.
They also run tastings for employees and train them so they can tell you what won in the last taste off. And of course the Web - Look up any wine that sounds ok and see what the web says about it.

Of course you might think Bud is the end all of beers and never need a microbrew or you eat frozen dinners in a box and think a classy Restaurant has food that people rave about and yet its only in their minds which of course is true. Some people eat the same meal day in and day out. TV CNN CBS Anderson Copper is that way.
