Topic: So I've decided to live in a shed

It's a shed behind my house, 4'x6.5'. The pictures are of my computer getting Internet via wireless, the ceiling, and the drawer I use to keep out stray animals and keep the breeze in (the door is a towel). I'll probably only go "inside" to use the restroom, bathe, and eat because of how much I like it out here.What I have are two lights, a laptop, a lot of towels to help with insulation and keep insects out, and my mobile exercise pedals. I use the pedals whenever I write or am OTI.
I also have two sleeping bags and a rug on the floor.
This started out as a project to develop a writing/work space free of distractions and close to nature, and kind of took off from there. I slept in it this afternoon and it was perhaps the best sleep I've ever had. I know this is unusual, but I guess I'm the small minority who likes living like a third world tribesman with an overpriced restroom/kitchen/storage shack in the front.

How long have you been in there for? What kind of set-up did you have to construct to make it happen? Do you feel safe in there? How do you deal with security? How long did it take you to make the transition? What's happening with the rest of your house? Does anyone you know IRL know about what you're doing? If so, how do they feel?

I got an old kid's clubhouse and converted it over the morning.

I feel pretty safe. I can hear if someone approaches and I've been lifting weights for a while. I'm mainly banking on the fact that it's very far in my backyard and I sleep some distance away from the door.

Pretty much just getting the wood clubhouse and moving into it, about 1 day. I keep the cooling and heating on the house to keep mold and mildew from growing, and for entertaining guests, albeit much higher and lower respectively.

My parents do, though they're the only people I've told. They're concerned about security with me sleeping there at night, but other than that seem to be okay with the idea.

It's a cheap plastic table, but with everything so packed in there it would be very, very difficult to get in and attack me or even get the laptop on the table (it's pretty high). Also, the shed has stilts and a narrow staircase/low and narrow entrance, so anyone entering would be off balance and have their solar plexus and groin exposed as they moved things out of the way.

You should set a few trip wires with mines for security. Also dig ankle deep holes, insert sharpened bamboo sticks covered with your own excrement, and conceal the holes so that they are not detectable. Do this around your shed. If you are going to have the set up you might as well do it right.

Here's the door, as you can see it's just a towel. Been up all night cycling and browsing the web at the same time. This mini exercise bike is great.(Edited 2 minutes later.)

I find this fascinating. I would be very comfortable in something like that, but I would need a better door. Not for security from people burnt wildlife.

@previous (jump !VIfloDyEYo)Here's two images of the front and side. There's a lot of space between the planks which is why I put the towels up there. I'm planning on adding some mosquito screening for the summer months soon, but so far bugs haven't been much of a problem despite the light.

A caddisfly just flew in here and swooped around the lights until I lightly bopped it. I didn't kill it because I didn't want to make a mess, but I apparently stunned/wounded it enough so that it's just sitting on the wall. Hopefully it will die there or leave while I'm gone, because it's really irritating to have something buzzing around when you're trying to work or relax.
I'll need to get a few throw rags so large bugs don't come in and bother me.
Update: It flew to the opposite wall. Flew into me, opened the towel for outside, but if there's one place it doesn't want to go it's into the cold. :/

It's now pretty late in the afternoon. I've been on my computer working or browsing the web as I pedal. Earlier in the morning, a pretty bad rain storm passed through, but the shed and towels remained dry. Here's a pic of my door during the day and bedding, which I slept on in the morning. It's a bit firmer than the bed I'm used to, but that's not a bad thing. I also have about 4 old blankets to keep me warm and sleep in yesterday's clothes, then I change and shower/cologne in the house.I'll need to add another towel to the door because it billows a bit with wind, but other than that very nice.
Thinking of getting chains with padlocks around the windows and door for security. I've grown fond of leaving my laptop in there, and don't want it to get stolen when I go out.

Sheds are also much, much cheaper than fabricated houses. Of course, mine was basically free, but for a long-term solution I'd probably get an largish garden shed with running water. Sleeping is something of a problem due to having to relocate the exercise chair away from the bag area. Other than that, everything's very, very nice.

There's a problem, I guess, with what are you saying. Yes, living alone in that shed sounds awesome, but is it good inspiration? If Crime and Punishment is your favorite novel, you know already that the poorness of the human city was a good inspiration for that book.
