hey becky. ever listen to NPR? this show is called "A way with Words" and people call in with questions about obscure words and phrases.
you can also call in and tell them what things annoy you, and they'll tell you where the phrase originates.
so in one show a woman called in and they determined that her annoying co-worker came from hill-billies.
