Vegetarians beware: many low-fat and nonfat yogurts and sweets contain gelatin, which is made from animal tendons, ligaments, and bones. You’d think the crunching would give it away. It must be drowned out by the sound of all those vegetarians patting themselves on the back for being vegetarians.

FACT : Most wines are made from grapes harvested by machines that scythe through everything in their path, including sticks, insects, rodents, and even larger mammals, which can make their way into the end product. This is known to wine growers as MOG, or “material other than grapes.†MOG also stands for “Mother of God, I think that was a hoof.â€

FACT : In 2001, the Ontario, Canada wine region was hit by an infestation of ladybugs, which infiltrated many area wineries. When agitated, ladybugs secrete a strong, foul liquid containing pyrazine, a flavor similar to rancid peanuts—and one that was perceptible in numerous wines of that vintage. Rancid Pinot Noir and Bugjolais, for example.

"Vegetarian" is widely used to refer to people who abstain from eating meat. Some also abstain from eating any animal products, but they usually fall under a more specialized definition. Many vegetarians still consume animal products like diary or eggs, and some even even include seafood in their diet.

Dairy, eggs, but not usually parts from cattle, like gelatin.

I don't know that there is really a consensus about the definition you are using.

If you consider consuming gelatin or cheese produced using rennet to be cow-eating, then yes. From my experience, a vegetarian who already consumes dairy products like cheese or yogurt isn't terribly concerned about animal products like gelatin or rennet.
The only consensus about the definition of "vegetarian" that I can find seems to be that they abstain from eating meat. (and some definitions are even picky about what kind of meats "count" as meat) Most definitions I can find go on to say that a subset of vegetarians (usually referred to as vegans) may abstain from consuming any animal products at all.
