Topic: So I'm now finally over on OSX.

Anonymous A started this discussion 13 years ago #25,155

Sold all my laptops and bought a bunch of Latitudes back (osxlatitude.com). Now I'm running OSX and I have to say as Windows liker, OSX runs under 5GB of diskspace with a ton of apps installed, en uses 700-800MB RAM. Why the fuck is Windows so fucking bulky? The fact that I now also have terminals and darwin-ports means I won't be going back to Windows!

Machines:

D430, OSX Snow Leopard, 2.5GB RAM, GMA950
D630, OSX Mountain Lion, 4GB RAM, NVIDEA
D820, OSX Lion, 4GB RAM, GMA965

The all run a custom bios with DTST tables, SLIC tables for Windows and some extra tweaks.
Anyone else doing the hackingt0sh boogy?

i am considering installing it on a different partition because my school only uses macs so it might be handy at some point, but i haven't really looked into it

The benefit of doing it with a Latitiude is that your bios can be modded so you can install OSX from an official DVD, vanilla as fuck.

I enjoy playing with different operating systems, and getting a hackintosh up and working sounds like a fun project. The only thing that has kept me from doing it is a total lack of interest in actually using OSX.

I ,like this better than linux + gnome/kde/etc. And in essance it is just a nice gui on top of bsd/unix with the same ports as bsd has and full X support. All under 5GB installed hd space and low memory foot print. Why the fuck not?

I still blame the sad GUI attempts for the fail of desktop linux.

I just wonder why MS cant make a properly stripped down windows that installs under 5gb. given ive used monoligual to remove bulk and app remover to remove all apple crap like itunens and such, with handbrake/transmission/vlc/chrome/xbmc and shitload of of others apps still being under 5gb i find that sweet
