Topic: Collecting books, not sensible?

Over the next 12 months, I will be getting certain books to add to my collection. Is this sensible these days? I do have them on my ereader, but I want the physical versions as well. Nothing is like the smell and feel of a book. Good or bad idea?

What do you mean by "sensible"? If you enjoy reading and having these books then by all means go for it. I don't think the books will appreciate in value but "collecting" something hoping it will be more valuable in the future is an exercise in stupidity (see: Beanie Babies).

Do you mean you'll be getting books you already have in eBook version? Because that seems like a bit of a waste. Otherwise like Meta said, go for it if it's something you want to do.

That's only true sometimes though. If the thing being collected is rare enough than it's most certain to go for more than you paid. Scarcity alone is sufficient to drive demand. (see: bitcoin)

Part of me does see it as a waste, but another part of me doesn't, seeing as I love to hold, smell, feel books. Knowing that I won't have to put it on a charger any time soon.
