Topic: I keep smoking cigarettes. They make me depressed, but I keep smoking them.

It's weird. I'm not depressed enough and I like being depressed, so the nicotine or some chemicals in the cigarettes make me depressed and being depressed makes me happy. It's weird. I am very weird. Help? I can't keep affording to feel this way.
No way, Not for me. Notice I said I can't afford to feel this way. I can hardly afford a pack of cigarettes a week, so kid most certainly wouldn't help.

People smoke so they can harass nonsmokers. No other reason. Nicotine addicts who don't wanna do that, use smokeless tobacco/nicotine -- lots of ways to get it without smoking.

All false, actually. I'm not a teen and I don't smoke to feel grumpy as you stated. I said depressed, not grumpy. Those are two different things, idiot. Being depressed makes me better at music and it's scientifically proven that being depressed gives you a better and real outlook of the world.

@384,699 (A) > it's scientifically proven that being depressed gives you a better and real outlook of the world.
Oh really? Could you link me to some of the research that "proved" that? I'd be interested to see a study that disproved the very definition of depression.

> this phenomenon is limited to those with what is considered moderate depression > all studies still highlight that it is better to be happy than intentionally be depressed to better understand things

@384,787 (A) > this phenomenon is limited to those with what is considered moderate depression.
Also, the Wikipedia article that your source cites actually has more studies that contradict depressive realism than those that support it. Also, all of the more recent studies refute it.

That's just something I read a while back. Regardless, the topic is how I feel.

@previous (A) > Anything anyone says scientifically means nothing.
Right, because doing studies to reach conclusions is clearly not as valid as one person's opinion. Should we dismiss all of those idiot scientists who say that the world is round, while we're at it? They are saying so scientifically, after all.

This is very contradicting… Better and more real outlook on the world, scientifically proven, anything anyone says that's scientifically proven means nothing.

The weight of evidence is against depressive realism. I never actually said that the issue was decided.
