yes, but our economy is fine and rich kids go to private schools. sure, i agree education could be better in public school,
but we're doing fine even without it. also they do not teach creation science in public schools here, but stupid religious fundamentalists keep trying to get it added to the curriculum and making it on TV. They are nuts, and unfortunately will have to deal with them for probably another 100 years before reason triumphs and rational people stop believing is fairy tales and mumbo-jumbo.

so? how does this reflect negatively on the state? we have a healthy economy, low unemployment, and far fewer problems with poverty and crime as other states. i'm not saying we're perfect, or even do everything correctly. Yeah there's still room for improvement.
but at least in Texas you can find work because we have great tax incentives for individuals and corporations.
There's a reason many national companies headquarters out of Texas,
and we don't even have a state income tax.
you could do a lot worse than move to Texas or start a business here.

Data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau show that Texas, long associated with cowboys, cattle and the wide-open range, became more urban and more Latino from 2000-2010. Non-Hispanic whites ceased being the majority, shrinking to 45.3% of the population from 52.4%
If there was a way to grow, Texas did it. It added people through births, lured job seekers from other states, offered a refuge to those fleeing the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina and remained a magnet for legal and illegal immigrants alike.
But the makeup of Texas is changing along with the growth. Overall, the minority population grew by 38% while the white population rose by 4%. The counties where Dallas and Houston sit lost white residents. These demographic changes are likely to have a long-term impact on Texas's political landscape as Democrats and Republicans compete for the new voters, state political observers say..

how does the act of accepting federally offered disaster money mean a state couldn't support themselves independently?
Also, when did i say that i thought Texas could support itself as an independent nation?
are you talking about that Petition to secede? you realise that was penned and published by one misguided army reservist who, acting alone and without affiliation with any group, posted the petition not thinking it would get any attention at all. The idiot media picked up on it and reported it like the god damned Texas State Congress fucking wrote it.
Property taxes here aren't that high, but they are higher than average. It's how we pay for schools. The problem is that since schools are tied to property taxes, wealthy cities have wonderful schools and poorer cities have poorer schools.
you can see the problem. We tried a "robin hood" plan to take excess money from rich schools (who were buying iPads and football Stadiums) and gave some of it to poorer schools to buy, you know, books and desks.
it didn't really work out because, well, republican corruption and greed. i think it was cancelled so the rich kids can all get new iPad minis.
also our sales tax is 8.25%, which isn't all that bad.
