Think I've had this problem myself. Try restoring it to factory settings.
Just make damn sure to take your hard drive off first, though.

Years ago for the fun of it I bought a book on X-Box cracking and projects for the fun of it.
Later discovered wot a waste of my tyme. If one is going to dig in2 a factory product one should first look at real success via web.

I doubt it's a recent update on its own that's caused this. They do test the things before they put them out and I haven't heard any news about a recent update freezing lots of people's Xboxes.

I repair stuff up in Space. I started out as a kiddlet repairing radio TV's and that was a shitty job. Customers in person were horrid to deal with and the shop ripped people off. We were told to pull the brand new tubes from sets and replace with used tubes. Used tubes were put in box's to be sold as new.
So I got a better paying job as a retail clerk in super market which paid a bonus for working PART TIME. Still dealing with crappy customers who claimed I over charged them and had to ring up a monster cart all over again and never did make one error.
So wot have I learned about Freezing and intermittents and such. One look at all the solder joints lololololyesyes. Mechanical connections that do not like temp shifts and inside those IC's are more joints that are Mechanical contacts.
So of course I tell people that turning on n off electronics is bad bad bad. Mechanical wear n tear translated to fail joints. Going Green presents problems and when they get rid of solder joints then I go full green.
Add on top of that KL is contamination inside the IC's. Contamination's on circuit boards that over tyme make for leakage. IC's that have tiny cracks that never ever get better but out of factory passed tests. Once upon a tyme factories used to pre test with full swing temp shifts. Found such cracks, but as some Quality engineer said they also pre started to get Solder joints to start to fail, but only show up after a year out in someones den.
No more expensive temp up n down.
My Satellites get lots of intermittents re blasted with X-Rays n Gamma and Beta & Cosmic Cosmic Cosmic Cosmic rays, nuclei of atoms - hydrogen, helium, iron and others. Neutrino radiation.
Henn can do wot I do with my Satellites. Slap Whack the box. It ain't easy for me to kick my Satellites hard enough but I find ways to shock them Mechanically. Really hate to do it but do it often nuff.

Yeah, and not to mention the fact that hardware limitations pretty much limit it to mobile/handheld games. It's unlikely that there'll be anything too earth-shattering on it. It's still an interesting idea, though. If it's made it'll produce interesting stuff if nothing else.

I don't think an Android console will work. Android gaming is a success, but it belongs on phones and tablets. Why buy an Android game console when I already have one in my pocket?

I think that they're justifying it by the fact that it can be used on TVs, and that it'll encourage more games to be made.

But phones and tablets can be hooked up to HDTVs with MHL HDMI output via micro-USB, and with Bluetooth, you can use many game controllers as well. In the future, I think something like WiDi will come to mobile phones and tablets and you will be able to hook your mobile phone to an HDTV wirelessly. In fact, in ten years I think a smartphone is the only device we will own, and we will connect it to external monitors and peripherals as necessary to give it deskop/game console functionality. Already today's smartphones are more powerful than desktop computers/game consoles of several years ago. I think game consoles are going to suffer the same fate as desktop PCs: gradual slide into irrelevance and niche usage.

I guess I'd be okay with this as long as they kept decent controllers around. You can't use a smartphone to play Halo or Dead Rising.
Also,I disagree that desktops are a niche. Perhaps the progress of laptops and tablets has given people more options, but there's still a lot going for desktops. They're the best for games, memory space and ergonomics to name but a few.

It's technically possible to play Halo (at least Halo 1) on today's smartphones but you are right, touchscreen controls are dreadful for many games. I have Doom (the original one from 1993) on my phone and it runs wonderfully but is nearly unplayable due to the controls. But if you connect a smartphone to an HDTV and use a decent controller (like the PS3 bluetooth controller) it would be quite playable indeed.

Desktops will always be around, just like phone cameras will never replace DSLRs for pro photographers. But for 90+% of people, a good phone camera is "good enough" for photos.
