I keep hearing about how Christmas was stolen by the Christians from the Pagans, but how accurate is this exactly?

I heard that the Catholic Church was responsible for turning the Pagan festivals of Yule and Saturnalia into Christmas because they wanted more people to convert.

Is this true?

You can't steal a festival lol. People say that the dates were chosen to compete with the other festivals, but evidence for this is lacking. It is not unplausible, though.
