Just like everyone will find ways to get guns.

Lanza's guns appear to have been legally purchased and registered, so maybe you have a point, OP.

this particular incident, yes. other incidents – columbine – not so much. they acquired their guns through shady means. other shooters have done the same! lanza? just an autist whose mother happened to be a gun owner! sad? yes. preventable? maybe. this particular event is cloudy, though. lanza and holmes may be involved in some conspiracies, look into it. ~

Perhaps banning guns is impossible but making gun ownership more difficult and not a right is a starting point. In the UK we have some of the strictest gun laws in the world. Gun crime is now a thing of professional criminals. These people do not shoot up Schools. That said I doubt 'Murikans have the wherewithal or even desire to bring about change.

Gun ownership in some form or another is a right protected by the Second Amendment, though. Getting rid of that right would require a constitutional amendment, and frankly I can't see any amendments passing in this political climate, let alone an amendment on something as controversial as gun control.

We have a right to bear arms, these days it should specify the type. We aren't allowed to own cruise missles for self defense, work backwards from that.
Also there's the question as to wether the right to bear arms implies a right to ownership of guns. We're granted the right to form militias, which could be construed as a right to bear arms as a militia. Private ownership of arms is not explicitly stated.

Isn't the whole idea of a militia built upon civilians forming and exercising their rights? How could that even be enforced? I don't see the federal government saying civilians cannot own firearms UNLESS they're a part of a militia.

Even if we were allowed to own cruise missiles, no average civilian would be able to afford it, and use of it as a weapon would be costly and almost always illegal.

Adam Lanza had serious mental health problems. He had zero friends at school, he had no Facebook page and was a complete social outcast. He has no connections. If his mother didn't have guns, and he was unable to buy them through legitimate gun retailers, he would not have had access to firearms. Whilst I don't particularly agree with gun control, that remains a fact.

Are you telling me that if you became a convicted felon next week then tried to buy enough firearms and ammunition, illegally, on the black market, to kill a few classes full of 5-year-olds, you could do so without knowing, or making contact with any individual trading in firearms? Did Adam Lanza even have the income to purchase weapons or the social skills to negotiate a deal?

Obviously only the most deviant of individuals. We should simply round up everybody who doesn't use Facebook and imprison them before they get the chance to go on a shooting spree.

Yes, exactly. Except the part about not contacting individuals dealing in firearms, but those don't have to be friends. And the part about no income, but again, income has nothing to do with friends and social networks. You do not have to have good social skills to scam people, steal credit cards, find dealers on the street, or be a criminal in general. Most criminals are sociopaths with very few skills or friends. That's why they're criminals.
