It's stupid and it makes you sound stupid. The British pronunciation is correct, the American mispronunciation is just hilarious and embarrassing. Stop it.

Exactly. Americans were too lazy to invent their own language so they decided to hijack and bastardize ours, adjusting the pronunciation of words then accusing us of pronouncing those words wrong.

The word "aluminum" Does look like it would be pronounced the American way. That being said neither version is internationally correct, if you're an american say "A loo mi num". If you're british say "A loo minium". Linguistic elitism is pretty stupid.
