There are no laws against driving them, unless you mean driving them on public roads, in which case it will vary by state. There are vehicles very similar to F1 racers that are street legal.
In either case, fully automatic weapon would be a better analogy. "Assault" weapons are not fully automatic. They're essentially not much different from any other hunting rifle. "Assault rifle" is essentially a term made up for guns that are black and scary to liberals.
