So I went to the cheesecake factory last night with Cupcake and it was a wondrous experience, the service was good, the food was good, it was all pretty delightful. Even during the hour wait we sat at the bar and enjoyed delicious non-alcoholic beverages (Virgin daqs and s-temples).
I however didn't bring enough money. Which didn't dawn on me until the final bill arrived. The CheeseCake factory isn't even that costly of a place, but 10 dollars in gas for the trip up there, approximately 15 dollars at the bar, 3 appetizers and 2 cheesecakes later, I had spent every bit of the 70 dollars I brought.
It was all my fault, too. Everything we purchased was completely my choice. Cupcake truly just went along for the ride and enjoyed the food, no big meal requests, nothing, she was just sweet and gracious. Of course she took part in choices and such, but as far amount being spent was concerned I was the master of my destiny.
So the bill arrives and I giggle at my misfortune. I barely have enough to pay without tipping. Paying mostly in cash, and a little bit with the literal dollar I had on my debit card. The thing is Minichan, I hate people who don't tip, it's cheap and inconsiderate, so in this moment I hated myself. I wrote a note on the cheque saying something along the lines of "Sorry I don't have money to tip you. You did fine." which I know probably just looks like I wanted to get away without tipping, but couldn't stand the shame associated. Oh, wait, that's exactly what it is.
That aside I had a terrific evening though, I got to spend time over at Cupcake's afterwards and we watched movies, hula hooped outside, and just generally had a blast. Also I got some great birthday gifts!

If you care, then get the server's name from the receipt, call to find out when (s)he'll next be working, and bring a tip. I'm sure you're obnoxious as fuck to wait on, it's the least you can do.

the note would piss me off if i were waiting on this effeminate douchebag on a date
also, did your girlfriend not have any cash? or is she too delicate to pitch in on the tip

No, I'm nice and polite. Don't have the receipt so too late for any of that.

I'm not going to borrow money for a tip. I'm neither a douchebag or particularly effeminate in nature.

Getting used for free food sounds pretty effiminate to me.

uh the money isn't for you, you paid for the meal, it's fair to borrow money for a tip
basically, you aren't at fault here, she is
she was capable of tipping someone who served her and she didn't and you didn't ask
so you both suck
nobody cares about your date, so why make this thread douchebag

I have actually done this before.

But you actually didn't have enough money with you to tip, so you couldn't have even if you wanted to. Even if you feel bad now there is nothing you can do, except be more cautious with how you spend your money keeping tips in mind.

I wasn't being used for free food, that's pretty ridiculous of you to even suggest. I wanted to take someone who means something to me out for dinner. That's hardly being used.
And she's not at fault at all, she didn't look at the bill, or see how much I paid, and I made no indication that I wasn't tipping. I only told her after we had already left the restaurant. Besides, I'm the one who invited her out, it's my responsibility to pay. (Whoever invites pays is my policy)

I don't even understand your position, really. Did you read the part about her getting me presents? She spends plenty on me, it isn't like our relationship is one sided financially. Besides that it's completely my choice to spend money on her, and I enjoy doing so. I don't feel used.

An alternative has been suggested as to how you could have gotten the money. Your inability to consider it is what I was referring to. I doubt you will understand this point either.

Okay, so you're saying I should have asked my girl for tip money? So I should bring multiple people into my poor decision making? No, it was my burden, and my burden alone.

Once again, I guess your ego was worth more than paying the waiter. How sociopathic of you.

Your Ego prevented you from asking Cupcake if she has some spare cash. My Ego would do exactly that. But my ego would damn well make sure I took the waitperson aside and explained and told them you would in near future return and pay up.
In a rush on a couple of occasions at a place near by, I failed to leave a tip when my pager forced me to do a quick exit. Later I did return and paid up. You get a really nice smile from a wait person and one very cute gal gave me one hell of a hug n hugs are nice to get.

I should have gotten the waiter's name and gone back later with tip money is what I should have done.

Go back and get her name from the manager with a description. Find outwhen she's working and give her atip.
