I tried speed reading a spy novel once. Read it cover to cover, nor remembered anything about what I read 10 minutes later except for the cover of the book.

I have a friend who speed reads, pretty fascinating shit. I'll probably take a course, don't know when and where tho.
I asked if it spoiled books to her, since it takes like just 2 hours to read whole books and she replied with:
"Nah, for example, 50 shades of grey... if I spend days reading that shit I would have killed my self... this way it wasn't much time wasted" lol
All in all, it's not bullshit, it actually works. Just make sure you read in your native language and shit that doesn't have too many complicated words you don't know (or else your brain focuses too much on em and you don't get the rest). That's what she said. Cheers!

I usually slow read in order to absorb things. I sped read "the hobbit" in a couple hours though, and got a good sense of the story and all.

Consider if its a really fun good great read. Much like a great dinner, one could force it all down in minutes, but no one does, because that is not the way to enjoy a great meal or book.
I am a super fast reader (comprehension?) I have to slow down if its technical or even just political content. A Physics text is often very slow reading with all the math content. Speed reading is of no value in so many cases.

This is what I'm gathering after looking around a bit. I can skim read at 1,000 WPM or better, but there isn't any absorption of the content. I can cherry pick stuff at that rate, but no fucking way is it really 'reading' it's more like looking in a crowd of people for a friend, sure you see all the other people, but it's only the friend you recognize.
Basically the idea of speed reading is a bit of stretch, you're not gonna study for your next exam at 1,000 WPM.
