After years of using a shitty little free-weights machine, this new machine is like a fucking Cadillac. You should all prepare your anusus in the next few months, because I'ma get swole. >;/

Wish I was strong enough to lift. I just do a lot of walking. Lost 6 inches around my waist since november!

Free weights are always more effective than machines you dumb motherfucker.

Machines and free weights both have their pros and cons. You seem to think I won't be using free weights anymore, which is wrong. The only difference is now I have a machine and I able to do a larger variety of workouts.
Calm down.

Too many times free weights fucked up a shoulder joint or strained something which then interfered for weeks with one of my most fav after work/weekend things.

Really what kind of stretches did you do to prepare for the workout?

Oh shit now you found one of my weak links. I know I should but maybe years ago when I started running on the beach, I may have tried the prep before the run. I damn well HAVE to stretch AFTER. If I fail I end up waking up at night with HORRID HORRID Painful cramps in legs and feet.
I have worked out a routine that prevents that EXCEPT if I eat something loaded with salt for dinner then I have learned to do a full set of stretches about one hour before going to sleep. I fail at this on occasions like after Swing dancing for 3.5 hours Friday and Sat night. Major Jacuzzi as prep on Sat morning and YES I still did my 10 Mile runs prior and I need to re-think this because I damn well know my energy level holds for the 3.5 hours later but NOT when I need to do 5 or 6 hours of Swing Dancing at a major festival.

That's a pretty badass mo-sheen. I just started working at my gym, and now have access to all that awesome equipment for free. I've been weight-training for about 6 months now, and slowly getting "swole". I wanna post a pic, but there's no way to do so without looking like a douche who takes pics of himself shirtless in the bathroom.

Doing a before and after is the only way to avoid that.
I say swole because I never do enough cardio to get ripped, because you know, fuck cardio. I'll probably give the couch to 5k a go this spring though, I've never ran 5k in my life, but I kinda want to just because I could push myself to do it.
I've always wanted a gym membership, but the best half decent gym is like 20 minutes away, it's just unrealistic.

Cardio is useless if you want to get swole. It's only place is when you're on a cut.
You should compliment your home gym with a barbell, squat rack and bench. Barbell training is a lot more effective because it hits a larger array of muscles (stabilizer muscles) than machines. Machines are great for isolations but unless you already have a strong core, then you risk disproportionate development which can later cause injury. You might find the book "Starting strength" useful, if you haven't already heard of it. There's torrents of it and also some instruction videos on proper barbell form.
Is your diet on track? I've personally wasted many months because mine wasn't, even though my routine was good. Wasn't eating enough, especially protein.

Fine. Here's a little before and now. Pretty proud of this shit. Also I avoided cardio like the plague for a few months and then just forced myself. Now I do an hour at least two days a week, and that's with a smoker's shit lungs.

It took me a while to establish a steady routine since I was just going off of forums and everyone has an opinion and everyone is right on there. I ended up where I am now: 4 days of lifting and 2 of cardio. My regimen is pretty intense, but I'm an all or nothing type. To be honest, I may work a little too hard sometimes. I take about a 5-day break every 6 weeks to recover. I was afraid to for the first few months and just kept trudging through until I just couldn't. Took a full week off and went up in weight on all of my dumbbell exercises. Then I set this up pretty much on my own. I do 4-6 sets of 8-12 reps on everything except my arms and back. For those it's at least 6 sets of 10, with 2 that are 4-6 rep of my max. I switch it up and will do a week of just pushups, chinups, and body weight exercises, then I'll do resistance bands for a few days.
As much as I hate to say it, I have quickly become one of those doucebags that gets genuinely excited about working out now.

@374,901 (G) > Barbell training is a lot more effective because it hits a larger array of muscles (stabilizer muscles) than machines.
This. If you want to make it even more diverse, try doing your barbell exercises with one of those big balance balls. Those fuckers change EVERYTHING.
> Cardio is useless if you want to get swole. It's only place is when you're on a cut.
Not necessarily. Years of fatassery left me with a slowed metabolism. If I don't do cardio I'll start carrying fat around the waistline again. Of course, I take in a lot of calories for lifting. I have learned that none of the "rules" of fitness seem to be universal. Errbody's different.

Fats its about time to drop that Fats Moniker. Nicknames are a dime a dozen and I never had one cept for internet.
Comments re Cardio vs getting ripped - Ya all need to do Cardio. Lots of Ripped dudes I have known, ended up sliced and diced for Quadruple bypass heart slice n dice. Recently visited a 22 surfer in the hospital. Body builder who had no time for Cardio and looked fucking healthy as all hell but internal pipes jammed up. The Heart as a pump needs a major assist from arteries that actually pump blood as well and if not wide open pliable and KLEEN ...Body fails on inside albeit the outside looks healthy.

So far as I know they have yet to cum up with a prosthesis brain. Pipes as you must know end up with dangling participles, which have been known to break off and get jammed at brain entrance blocking oxygen to brain. You actually end up a vegetarian er I mean a Vegetable as result. Strokes and Heart Crashes not a cool way to go.
Just imagine chaners climbing out of basement one day to end up as out of basement Vegetables, limping along in a walker and talking out the side of there drooling neck.

We tried to do it over sKype, but it just didn't work out. The three hour time difference is just too much. He may be moving out west soon and we'd definitely like to do it again, but it kind of got put on the back burner when I left Florida. You can email me @ [email protected]
