What do you keep in your car for emergencies?
So far, I have a flashlight, ice scraper, lotion, and sniper gloves. I'm thinking that I should also get:
A first aid kit
A fire extinguisher
An E-tool + hatchet OR the Cold Steel Spetsnaz combat shovel (basically a small, bladed shovel weighted as an ax)
tow straps
a winch
Aircrew survival egress knife
Anything good/bad about this list? What would you add? What's on YOUR list?

Blanket/Pillow for the winter. Maybe some canned food and water if you really want to be safe. You are not going to need this though unless you get like trapped in a blizzard or something.

A Pussy Pounder 3000, batteries and some lube.

Canned foods like potted meat, incase I get stuck somewhere. A charged phone battery. A Porta-John, toilet paper, magazines for the wait.

Cigarettes and a bottle of whiskey. A female companion and some extasy.

Jumper cables. It would be embarrassing to be stuck with a drained battery in a parking lot somewhere having remembered a winch, tow straps, a first-aid kit, and a Spetsnaz combat shovel, but having forgotten something simple and basic like jumper cables.
Bonus items:
road flares
tire chains (if weather appropriate)

Jump leads
Pliers
Space saver spare tire and jack/wrench
Tow rope
Tow eye for my car
Head lamp
First aid kit that would be useless, need to make my own with a bunch of dressings, painkillers, gauze pads, Surgipads, dressing sponges, hydrogen peroxide, scissors, etc etc. The little gas station first aid kits are useless when you really consider what would be required in most cases. Haven't had the time or money to get a bunch of supplies together.

JUMPER CABLES! Oh, that's brilliant. Why didn't I think of that? And flares! Perfect! I can even use them to light fires if I'm lost in the woods :D
@previous (G)
Jump cables are a most def. As for spare tire/jack, I've got a full-size spare mounted on the back and the stock jack. I also have three hooks for pulling things. Two on the front and one on the back in place of the trailer hitch.
I also think a Stinger bumper would be useful.

OP lives in a city and will never venture into the woods, or use his truck for anything other than driving to and from Walmart and to and from his work. Thanks.

I actually live in a small town surrounded by woods I'll have you know! And even though I've only been in those woods in my vehicle one time, and it was a trail, and I had google maps navigation, I still could have died.
What can I use my entrenching tool for? It has a d-shaped handle and folds up. The handle is metal, it seems, meaning it's the older model (not the current NATO-adopted version).
EDIT: And I don't shop at Walmart.

I do! And I tell them about all the scary people I saw whilst out there. These rather gruff looking rednecks eyed me dirtily as I passed. They were dressed rather odd. I believe I had on smart casual while they were basically in whatever. Very odd people, those forest-dwellers.

A bottle of Jack's finest whiskey. And when you crash into someone, and everyone's ok, be like "This is a miracle, cheers to that" and pass the bottle around.
When it's your turn to drink be like "I'll wait till after the alco test".
On a serious note, duct tape and a small canister of distilled water (5 liters is enough)

Bear mace. You never know when you're gonna need it, and if you don't have it when you do then you're fucked. Pistols do jack to a bear.

I keep a maglite with glass-breaker on the cap and three spare batteries in my car at all times. The glass breaker could save your life or someone else's if you're in a situation where you/someone else is stuck in the car.

A gallon jug of kitty little, and a tool that would let help you shatter a window, or cut a seat belt. A prepaid cell phone, in a waterproof container, a jug of water.

Where is that Maglite gonna be when the car is upside down or you're stuck in a lake in complete darkness? In your glove box? Somewhere else, unsecured? It would be far superior to have a rescue hammer with seat belt cutter fixed to the dashboard.

You haven't really thought it through. If the car is upside down retrieving something from your glove box will be impossible.

Really? Don't you have a breakdown service? If I crash my car at 3AM in the middle of nowhere I can just call a recovery truck and wait for it. This is why I think storing canned food and clothes is a step too far. You're paranoid.

Only once has an Earthquake knocked me out of bed. Back in married days where both me and wife ended on floor. Few years later when I was living in Santa Monica and they had the Northridge Earthquake that wiped out lots of LA Freeways and took 1000's of houses off foundations. I went out to help friends pack up and move to hotels etc.
Been a camper backpacker hiker hardware mountain climber all of my life so I decided to have what I needed in trunk of car as well as pre packed survival stuff in garage. Easy to put together and reminds me to change out the cans of pinto beans etc because by now a few may have rusted from the insides? Bags of par boiled rice so as to fake a Red beans n rice concoction. Should buy some can spam
Also one of my many many Satellites could actually come on down and hit the roof of my house or my car while driving.
Earthquake stuff is a full time business with storefronts even in San Diego proper where its rare city wise to get any kind of Earthquake jolt. East of me in desert about 2 hours they have had clusters of serious Earthquake shit

Why the fuck would it be impossible? I reach up instead of down, and instead of reaching into the glove box it falls out of the glove box. Sounds like you're not thinking it through. And who's to say the car is upside down? Maybe it's sinking and the electronic windows don't work, or a fire has damaged the car and I'm trapped.
Anonymous G replied with this 14 years ago, 3 minutes later, 2 days after the original post[^][v]#373,533

Picture this. The car is upside down and on fire. You're in a field, battery has been disconnected so you have no light. You open the glove box and the light falls out, where did it go? You can't reach it with a seat belt on. So now you've cut the seat belt off with your knife. Crawling around in the dark trying to find the window smashing light because you underestimated fucking gravity.

If the car's upside, it's on the inside roof of the car, a flat surface, with no where for it to hide. STFU. You're a moron.

Yes, it's guaranteed that the car will land perfectly on its roof on a level surface providing you with a flat fucking roof to pick up your stupid fucking flashlight and shove it up your ass. You stupid fucking cunt.
