Topic: In the past healthy food was cheap, and unhealthy food was expensive. Now...

Now it's the same, but people pretend like that $0.25 banana and cheap grains are somehow only for the rich, usually said with a $2 soda in hand, after eating a $5 lunch at McDonalds. It's a wonderful excuse for having no self control.
> Nah... in my country at least soda is much cheaper than milk or bottled water.
Try tap water, use a filter if you need to. It's the same thing. Most bottled water is just bottled tap. And if soda is more expensive you are buying in the wrong area.
In the US I can find bottled water for $.50, sometimes less if I'm buying in bulk.
> And it still costs me more to cook a healthy meal than to get takeaways.
Buy a few raw foods and eat them. A fruit or two, maybe a veggie. Get some greens and throw them in a bowl with some nice dressing. Sweet potatoes are very cheap, and nutritious, they even taste great. Trade out red meat (unhealthy) for poultry (healthy). Quinoa is very cheap.
If you do some reasearch you can eat very cheaply and healthily.
Go to the farmer's market and pick up a lot of cheap food.

Yes, you have to have some knowledge, easily obtained online, or in a book.

Tis true, but ultimately it's convienience. It's much easier to be instantly gratified with a fully cooked meal than to have to make it all yourself. Not arguing that it is right, simply that it is easier.
Also, that picture is making me lol everytime I see it.

If only bro, if only. :-( @previous (Ph !5pM9NZR/l6)
Precisely, but you could also go for a packaged tuna salad and a whole wheat bagel instead of a battered sausage with onion rings, rite?

Well, I can't stand tuna, but I do get what you mean. The hardest bit for me is cutting down on soda. I have been slowly replacing it with more juice and lots of water, but the lack of caffeine can get to me.

> banana
Bannanas are probably the cheapest fruit per size/pound in stores.
The little tasty berries are usually the most expensive. Either that or exotic fruits.

I have to argue for healthy food. Fresh produce is NOT expensive. Fast food is MORE expensive than fresh produce and a chicken breast.

This. Organic and/or free range stuff from Whole Foods is expensive, but produce and fresh meat at Walmart are not.
