Because there are about 50-75 people on the minichan/tinychan/scatchan boards and there is no way that is an adequate sample size for determining what the population at large thinks. And no I don't see men hating women in general on boards all over the internet, but I don't go looking for that kind of stuff. And even if I did, the group of people that posts on internet forums isn't the same as the average population anyway.

Atheists make up less than (I think) 15% of the American population. I don't know the statistics on video game players, but I imagine that's a prety average thing to do. I'm not saying that average people can't be atheists or play video games, just that people who are so serious about their atheism/video game habit that they seek out internet forums to talk about it are not average.

Sorry I was being unclear! I meant posting specifically about atheism and video games on internet forums, not posting on internet forums in general, though I do think that itself isn't incredibly commonplace.
And I think that the people who said the rape remarks probably don't even see the problem with what they're saying or they wouldn't have said it during a close political fight to begin with. I bet they think they're as informed as they need to be to make a good decision, even though that is far from the truth.

I am always nervous about looking at some group of people and then concluding that is representative of a larger group. I don't have a degree in statistics and I don't regularly conduct polls so I don't know what we would have to look for to determine whether the opinions of a couple hundred people on a couple dozen forums is what the general population thinks.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if no one did. It's not like rape is a popular dinner table conversation, and I don't think they did any more than cursory research involving sources that they already agreed with to begin with.
