Topic: There are adds popping up all over my browser!

Handle !tYHPZ2dvu6 started this discussion 14 years ago #23,342

I'm using Chrome, and I keep seeing popup adds over certain text on websites (For example there will be the word "chatroom" and when I hover over it a bubble pops up with an add about chatrooms).

Help? I assume it must be one of my addons.

I don't think you've given it a proper try. There are a lot of Irish people on reddit for you to talk to.

What would I want to talk to Irish people?
The reason I'm on the internet at all is because I don't want to talk to them.

This thread is just super but I B dressed in full suit n tie and have to rush off to a business meeting.

Handle to get rid of 99% of that crud. Go to Chrome toys/apps and this is 100% free and works!

Adblock is a quick install
NoScript is a quick install.

One word of caution. No free lunches. When an ad does jump past Adblock there will be a light grey tab on image/box to click on and you can click to add the filter to block that ad as WELL as ads from that Server!

NoScript is a little bit of a bother. For mobile devices I would not recommend it. Every flash site ..YOU have to click to ok - Anything embedded will ask you for permission. Its one click but still a bit more trouble.

Give each or both a try because its easy to just disable. THEY ARE among the most popular web tools for browsers.

I use AdBlock (Who doesn't?) didn't help.
Just installed ScriptNo (not NoScript) and see to block the javascript running the add.

Thank you my friend.

I think that's your problem. I've used AdBlock on Firefox as well as Chrome and the Firefox one just worked straight away.

See, Google doesn't want you blocking ads.

NoScript is an addon but apparently only available for Furryfox, which provides the superior web-based browsing experience anyway.

Sorry about that yes ScriptNo for Chrome. Not as good as NoScript but if you stick with Chrome and use Adblock then you must try ScriptNo

Now about
> I use AdBlock (Who doesn't?) didn't help

Perhaps it would IF - They use a white list to block that which is on the white list. Then next time you see a pop up or ad that you want to kill, just right click on that ad and Adblock will give you a menu with multiple choices. It should show you the server sending you that ad. There may be as many as 5 similar server variations. Just check all of them with a click and you should see Ad and pop ups gone.
