Here in California this Medical use of Sativa is supposed to be legal but not as far as Feds are concerned. So the stores are going away S L O W L Y - But so far no one who grows it and has the prescription to buy, has been busted by Feds and local cops cannot because Medical use of is Legal here.

I have before. Quality can be an issue with small grows. The last grow i did turned out about 2 Oz of good bud, and about 1/4oz of really good bud. But that's it. It took 3 or 4 months start to finish. Fun stuff, i may do it again, but it was a hassle. I couldn't leave town for more than a day, you have to mess with it at least once a day.
The smell was never an issue though, i made a bad ass carbon air filter with a 4" industrial ducted exhaust fan. Worked like a dream, but was loudish for a closet.

You can grow some fairly fire smoke with decent brickweed seeds if you do everything else right. Alternatively if you start with good seeds and get the other stuff right it's easy to grow kick ass smoke. Light, seeds, nutrients - importance in that order. By nutrients I mean keeping the soil pH balanced, the plants won't get what they need if the soil is fucked. Obviously fertilizers are important, but they are worthless unless the pH is right. None of it will matter without good light, nothing trumps the light.
One good (small to medium) plant can produce 4-6 ounces, but predicting the yield is impossible unless you know what to expect from the seeds you're using. A person could easily produce enough to keep themselves smoked out with 4 or 5 plants in rotation. The basics of growing fire smoke are super-simple, but it does require regular attention. For people that smoke everyday growing is a great way to save a lot of money, and always have good smoke.

I did use nutrients, and found that dallas water is very acidic. I'd run all the water through a carbon water filter and that fixed it right up. I was trying to ph balance with additives but filtration worked way more perfectly. I think my biggest problem was not replanting, i used a 2.5 gallOn pot but should've replanted in a 5gal bucket. It was stunted a bit, and i stressed it with too much fertilizer a couple of times, but it turned out pretty good.
Next time i'll do the extra stuff like proper potting. I'd love to do it again. What i'd really like is a little indoor garden room, like a converted walk in closet or utility room.

I'm sure you know bulbs are probably the most debated thing in potology, but it really boils down to lumens. The most efficient way to grow is using clones and the Sea of Green method, but that requires a two-room (or closets) operation (or one room divided). Sea of Green maximizes yield per square foot, nothing beats it outside of hydroponics.
If I were starting out a small operation I'd buy a some quality first gen seeds and pollinate some females and have a near lifetime supply of sweet hybrid (or pure bred) seeds. After that I'd start the Sea of Green method.
A person would need a new mother plant/s (to get clones from) about every 3 months, but that wouldn't be an issue since they have a shit-ton of safely stored seeds. People get intimated by the time it takes to start an op like that, I mean it's around 10 months before you're sitting in buds. But after that, man, you're swimming in green, like an endless supply of high-times quality bud.
Even with a small op, I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. It's simply most effective/efficient method a person can do outside of hyrdo stuff, which is a whole different ball game.
Life is a lot easier when you have land, heh.

Paranoid though it may be just one plant looks like just playing around. I dunno, i think in texas one plant is ad bad as a hundred, so who knows, i probably would've been fucked anyway. But i figured i could go up to the judge and be like, "look, man, i just planted one seed and then things got out of control! I bought lights! I bought fertilizer! I'm sorry!"
