I haven't read the books in a long time, but as far as the book goes, Ron was just such a beta character at all times, I know he was supposed to be the loveable sidekick, but Harry Potter is this brave, amazing guy, and Ron's just this hapless mostly one dimensional dork. (The times where he is given some character seems forced, and almost there on purpose to make sure you know "Oh this character is complex", he seemed like just an extra with a lot of lines).
As far as the film goes, that's what the film Ron was like too, but with an added whiny quality. He wasn't just the hapless best mate of Harry's,he was also whiny, the actor's whimpering I specifically recall sounding very forced, it reminded you that you were indeed watching a movie, and there were indeed actors on the screen. The films on the seventh book obviously tried to get rid of that Ron character, as did the book. (The movies actually follows the spirit of the books pretty well.) Ron is conflicted at one point, brave at another, a mind independent of the whims of Harry. But it doesn't work, because we've seen Ron be this submissive bitch for so long, he gives one the impression of someone who's just putting on airs, and trying to act like a tough guy.
That's why I didn't like Ron in the Harry Potter series.
Good enough answer?

Good answer. I remember when he abandoned Harry and Hermione in the woods, when they were searching for/guarding horcruxes, and thinking "What the fuck Ron? Could you be any worse?"

I kind of like Ron Weasley. Then again I also liked the Weasley twins and Bellatrix LeStrange. The one I thought was one dimensional was the villain in the first book that Voldemort was on the back of the head of.

Well that was that forced "Ron is a conflicted bad ass" in the 7th book films, which actually just turned out to be just a kind of a dick. Don't even get me started on Neville Longbottoms character arch, how fucking forced was it when he stood up to Bellatrix at the end? No indicators that was going to happen, no slow transition, just, okay this character is cool now. Twist now! Right guys?

During the time when the trio were playing grab ass in the woods, Neville was defending a school full of children from Death Eaters. Also, I kind of think that Neville might have been the Chosen one the whole time, and that multiple people (including Hermione) knew of it.

Weasley twins were kind of non-characters to me, in the books, and the films. The shenanigans that the Weasley twins pulled were entertaining, but they'd be entertaining done by any character, the twins weren't very complex. In the book Bellatrix I imagined as overweight (Kind of like how Dolores Umbridge was portrayed in the 5th movie), and her character just seemed like a typical bad-guy/henchman. In the movie however, I liked her, because I fucking love Helena Bonham Carter, she really ran with the role, and made it a treat.
Voldemort was yeah, pretty silly, and one dimensional, although in the books the stuff with Tom Riddle was interesting. (In the movies Tom is just sort of played as a Damien character, and is kind of stupid.)
Pretty much all the villains in the HP series were shit, and one dimensional, even Snape, and Malfoy who would major character development, and twists, gave the impression of puzzle boxes, more than characters. It was more about setting up a mystery than making a character that's even somewhat possible to relate to. Except at certain points in the Tom Riddle/Voldemort backstory, I think Rowling put in some effort with making Riddle seem evil, but still a real human being.

He was suddenly like that though, in the last book. I honestly think that while Rowley proclaims to have it all planned out, she didn't. Towards the end she said to herself "Oh, what if Neville was the chosen one all along, wouldn't that be crazy?", and incorporated that possibility in a bit last minute.

Tom Riddle have so much more potential though. Then again when we all started them we were all pretty much children. If I was reading this as an adult for the first time I would agree but growing up with it and learning to love the characters make a bit of a difference. It's almost like I can't pass judgement on most of the characters because of a bond I have with a lot of them.

I think a lot more could have been done with Umbridge than was. She seemed like a very conflicted person, and had a very creepy vibe. When reading the books I remember her standing out above all as the the most disturbing character.

Before Tom Riddle was revealed to be Voldemort in the 2nd book, I remember liking him a lot. I think that was the point though, that the reader was supposed to like Riddle as a character so the reveal of him being the main villain would be more shocking. Voldemort is just sort of a cartoon villain, very one dimensional, and almost absurdly evil. But maybe that's not a bad thing, there are people out there who are simply bad people, and why not have a character that's similar?

I actually think that while Voldemort consider Harry to be the chosen one, many other people in this world did not. One reason for this, is that they let Harry fuck around a lot, never made him study, and Dumbledore seemed fairly flippant about Harry's safety.

Well, Umbridge's character gave me the impression of a lot of personal conflict, whereas Voldemort was just plain evil. I kind of think that Umbridge is a classic Malignant Narcissist, overly confident, lacking in empathy, obsessed with praise/looks/material goods. Whereas Voldemort/Tom Riddle is a psychopath, devoid of empathy, shallow emotions, without conscience, and obsessed with power.

I don't think that's it, there's no way the entire Wizard community was in on Harry being not the chosen one, besides, Dumbledore isn't an asshole that would let some child be in danger just as a decoy for another child. The fact that Dumbledore allowed Harry to go on the adventures that he did shows that he did think Harry was the chosen one, because if he truly is destined to defeat Voldemort, he will, there's no point in taking too many precautions.

Only dumped twice in my rather long life and each one was just Horrible experience. Just out of teendumbe a lovely Strawberry blond told me her parents hated me because of my Religion, and I was going to church with them. Not religious at all. Years later I found out the Father owed a huge amount of money to one of my Uncles. After that I would not date a red head much less a Strawberry blond for many a year so when I did
Yep she dumped me and made me situational depressed for a couple of months. Get this and she was nice very nice more then very nice butttttt after only three months of dating she took my hand and held it in a restaurant, and said lets talk about our future and children. I hope becky does not read this part, cause it will only validate sumpthing -- I think because I was nervous, I cracked a joke.
One simple tiny joke and that was it. Take me home nor do I want to stay the night with you and end of story.
Is there a good ending to this loooooong tl;dr?
Sure cause remember how exciting it is to meet someone new and all that goes with it in the exploration of all that is in a relationship. ITS Magic.
Many many gf's since and current gal is a Strawberry blond but I do not see this ending anytime soon. So just take it easy cause there is no quick fix to feel better until you get out of the haze your in and dooooooont make mistrake trying to kill pain with drugs or booze.
Me the rare times I do get depressed my want for alcohol decreases.

I've been in long term relationships with other people, but have never bonded with them like I did with my ex. We dated for over a year, and every second of it I thought she was the one, the one I was going to marry, and have a kid with. She was everything to me, and still is, honestly. Yeah, might find other girls, but I'm not going to fool myself into thinking that every female that comes along is going to evoke the same response that my ex did, I doubt any will actually. I'm more interested in just learning to live without love (which I did for many years), than finding a replacement for my ex.
Having her in my life would be the best, it's what I want desperately, and being alone would be terrible, but better than being with anyone other than her.

I never once thought about will this be the one Give it time and wait because frankly most of us make the same mistrake re rebounds. Jump from fire into the pan and its not good for either of you. For me what works is Girl Friends that are Girls who become friends. Twice I have tried to cross that line and it does not work for me. Mess with a friend and lose the friend but others make it work. I have one long term fuck buddy - X Gf that now lives on East coast and when I am not in a relationship she fills in the gaps er turn that one around.
So seek out some fun things to do that have lots of people doing the fun and develop a couple three female friends. Plus side is you get their unbiased point of view and the down side is that if they do not approve of the new gal in life it can be arg

You know what, I'll believe that, too. It's more fun to think that way, and I think you're right. I think Neville was underdeveloped as a character perhaps to keep up the mystery that he was the possible chosen one. If he had as much air time as Harry for example, or as much background explain, it would be difficult to hide his identity. That being said, I think he could have been played better, he was basically just for gags most of the way through.

Child as result but my wife never knew. Fully admit to being in Love with two women at the same time. Bet those Jack Mormons who have 5 wives love them as well.
So anyway when I decided to ask for a divorce we were hardly friends but later after a couple of years I introduced her to her next husband and we all remained friends after that.
Only one Ex I am not friends with and my story re Homicide detectives and multiple Helicopters and 3 different cop agencies and me getting a restraining order does not lead to friendship after that.
