A new poll by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life reveals that a record number of Americans (19.3 percent) have abandoned faith and now consider themselves unaffiliated with any particular religion. According to USA Today:
This group, called "Nones," is now the nation's second-largest category only to Catholics, and outnumbers the top Protestant denomination, the Southern Baptists. The shift is a significant cultural, religious and even political change.
Today ... the Nones have leapt from 15.3% of U.S. adults in 2007, according to Pew studies.
One in three (32%) are under age 30 and unlikely to age into claiming a religion, says Pew Forum senior researcher Greg Smith. The new study points out that today's Millennials are more unaffiliated than any young generation ever has been when they were younger.

The real number is probably larger; a lot of people are only nominally Christian and never actually go to church or try to follow the religion but for whatever reason don't want to label themselves atheist. The fundies are so loud and well organized that it makes them seem more numerous and important than they actually are.

@OPWhy would anyone join a club where they are not wanted?
South of me is a town inside San Diego - Hillcrest. They have their own churches that cater to such. For a city area its pricy without any Ocean a blue view. but close enough to find some sand.
If you search for photos plenty they will be, for some reason most are on the vampire looking pale side.

No, I meant that many of these gay people were raised from birth in their churches. All of their friends and family, and job, and social life might revolve around their church. So they are already "part of the club". When they leave its very hard for them, because its like losing your whole life.

Major world wide travel based out of WDC and a lot lot lot of time living working in Afghanistan. That is some mean shit. But and you know this is true of many who have work like that. To remain healthy one needs a local support system so one meets new people and makes friends and if you're good at it and i was - A whole new family. I have multiple sets of Mothers a few Dads and all that goes with great friends in remote places.
So that person out of closet as well as out of the club - Humans endue and just like a dog that leaves the pack - Dog finds new pack to hang 10 with.
